Nick Cave's "And The *** Saw The Angel"

I couldn't find any thread on this book prior to this one, so I guess it's kosher to make a new one. Anyways, I'm a big fan of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Cave's lyrics are so beautifully mystical and tend to the darker nature of the human psyche (kind of reminds me of Poe). I just recently discovered that he have written a book, a rather acclaimed one at that; "And the *** Saw the Angel". Now, I don't know where to look for this, but I'm mighty enticed. Is there anybody who's maybe a bit unbiased about Caves musical reputation that can shed some light on the books actual content? Is it any good?

I won't get into the genius of Cave's work over the years in music and film, but I do wish he'd write more; I don't think it's a capitol "G" "great" novel but certainly filled with great characters, lots of archaic/literary/biblical (of course) references alongside modern twists. In Deep Southern Gothic vein, if you can stomach the vulgarity and depraved goings-on, not for the faint of heart, lol, Euchrid the mute's journey through surreal world of religious fanaticism and the depths of human misery among the lowest of the low is a great allegorical story.

Wow, this sounds awesome! I don't know why I said that I hadn't bought the book, because I already have! Haha, I'm weird... Anyway cheers Logos, I'm sure I'll appreciate the disturbing nature of it because that's what I like with his music.

Yeah, I've got it all planned out now, ready for some weeks of seclusion and southern gothic-style literature. Right after finishing "As I lay Dying" I'll plunge right into Cave's book. Man I'm going to be so dark and disturbed after some antisocial, phone-switched off reading of bizarre, gothic prose. I really wished more of my favorite musicians would write some fiction, I've always fantasized about Tom Waits or Bob Dylan writing some fiction, I think they would succeed with astonishing measure.

Being an unabashed Nick Cave Fanboy I have read it and loved it. It is utterly insane.

I haven't read And The *** Saw The Angel, but I did read The Death of Bunny Monroe and found it very entertaining. It had a few really quirky pop culture references and just fun writing.

As a side note, I saw him speak last September, met him, and got my first edition of The Death of Bunny Monroe signed!

I am a huge Nick Cave fan and I really loved the book, I have also read his other book Death of Bunny Munro and I thought it was really good too. His characters are interesting and his view on things. He really should write more, he did write the screenplay for the movie the Proposition... have to admit I haven't seen it...
