Thankyou for your thoughtful and intelligent replies, they need careful digestion by myself and a daydream of consideration at least, to give replies back to your standards. I do find the subject of Atheism as something i do not understand. What does it actually mean ? It must be an extremely difficult position to take. And people must bombard you with the most difficult questions to answer.

Underneath the eaves of my house there is a mud built structure that has a semicircular shape. Every year regular as clockwork two housemartins appear they have migrated accross the Sahara and back to this tiny stucture in the south east of england with pin point precision. In built in them (the housemartin), as i would understand it is an ultra precise navigation system. In human terms this could only be equated to, in my mind a satellite navigation system. It blows me away watching them from my window their tiny brains hold that amount of sophistication, the word miracle springs to mind at the feat they have performed.

Also this is just what has sprung to mind, the laws of motion, and say physics in general, of mathmatical theory, even if you do not understand it,a human being has just discovered a way of expressing something that was already there and that it can be predicted, and the word law suggests predestined structure.

The sun throws light and heat upon the earth every day, then by night the moon casts just enough illumination on us not to be in total darkness. This reminds me of being a young child when i went to bed at night and was still scared of the dark my mum would leave a small light on in the hallway (pure sentiment i know!), is it just by chance of interplanetary gravitation we have just enough light at night, or a signal that the presence of life on earth has been considered and given everything it needs for survival?

I do not expect you to answer what i have written, things like this (above) make me wonder. I am speaking from the heart and i think to be an atheist as i understand it would deny me that wonder and the amount of science based research that must be involved would make me wonder even more i think, but i am willing to learn, and bow to the superior knowledge needed to take this position.

I really appreciate you both replying to my posts and feel honoured you take time to do so, i have just started to read homage to catalonia and am excited about finding out more about Orwell as a man, what i have read has pleased me greatly he has come accross an an eccentric almost, upper class character whom his comrades held in very high regard. Also i would like to read some of the literature bazarov has studied, i only have the one russian book and that is Anna karenina by Leo tolstoy, is this a worthy starting point bazarov?
I will play with the quotes to try and figure out, thanks for helping. Once i have mastered this is i shall be a noob no more!
    your sincerely,

    Luke the technonoob!!!!

ps I have looked up the definition of an Atheist and could be described as one, just one that is in awe of life on earth.

Not to mention fallacies on what atheism means.

The simplest way to look at it is to look at the following statements.

    I believe in god. Theist

I don't believe in god. Atheist

I have no idea whether to believe in god or not. Agnostic

    Simple.

It is amazing, and even more amazing than the navigation is the amount of energy one tiny animal can have. Imagine yourself taking a journey of several thousand miles without stopping for a drink - and going flat out all the way, as do geese & ducks.

    Evolution is amazing.

Current theory says that the birds are able to detect magnetic differences which enable to them to return to the same place.

Except for nights when there's no moon. I always wish we lived in a planet with more moons.

Nah, scientific atheists are actually few & far between. There's no need to prove things, just accept the evidence of your own eyes. Even then, Einstein put it into words rather well. Check this out.

    Yep, that's him!

Homage to Catalonia is excellent. It shows both the depth of courage he possessed and his refusal to be indoctrinated by anything other than himself.
