    How does one Pronounce: Dostoevsky?

Tell me, anyone: How does one pronouce the author's name: Dostoevsky? What about his first name: Fyodor? Is it "Fe-o-dor?"

    Thanks,

    mea505
Why, the whole point, the real sting of it lay in the fact that continually, even in the moment of the acutest spleen, I was inwardly conscious with shame that I was not a spiteful. I am a sicker man! I might foam at the mouth, but bring me a doll to play with, bring me a cup of tea with sugar in it, and maybe I will be appeased! I might even genuinely be touched, though probably I should grind my teeth at myself afterward and lie awake at night with shame for months after. That is my way.

I'm just horrible at writing it down so I consulted dictionary.com. It varies though. Sometimes the "yef" is "yev"; quite frankly, I think the difference is trifling. Also, I some entries showed had it start with "dos-tuh". Regardless, at least now you have a general idea as to how it's pronounced.

    F - normal
    yo - like in yoyo
    dor - like DORi

Dosto - normal, like it's written
ev - it's yev(like yes), I don't know why on west they lose that y in pronounciation
ski - it should be pronounced like skiy, more like long iiiiiiii at the end
At thunder and tempest, At the world's coldheartedness,
During times of heavy loss And when you're sad
The greatest art on earth Is to seem uncomplicatedly gay.

To get things clear, they have to firstly be very unclear. But if you get them too quickly, you probably got them wrong.

The man knows what he's talking about!

Seriously, this is absolutely correct, and the only correct way of pronouncing it, btw. I've heard all kinds of mispronunciations.

It's a tongue-twister; at least it does twist mine. I cannot talk right after pronouncing his name.

You shouldn't talk; continue with reading.

I haven't talked in more than three days!
