I am currently reading King Lear, and I have one question..

How is edgars story an effective counterpoint to the events in lears family?

Lear disowns his angelic daughter, Cordelia: Gloucester his son dutiful, Edgar. The two fathers pay dearly for such poor judgement - with desolation and, finally, with death.

Both fathers are unable to distinguish between sincere love- love that does not need too many words, but is communicated through the power of feelings- and mere, evil flattery exercised by Edmund (in Gloucester's case), and Goneril and Regan (in Lear's case).
