Nightshade, Are you thinking of "Three Men in a Boat"? Even so, alas no.
Pen, you're giving me way to much credit. 0-2 again. Keep batting like that and you'll have to change your name to The Cubs.

    Your first hint, albeit obscure:
Nine works are American (including 18)
    Six are from the UK
    Three are Russian
    One is French
And of course Eddie Rex is Greek

Well, perhaps it is not my batting. Keep pitching like this and you may sit the bench next round!

These are predominantly plays on words, puns. I work a lot of crossword puzzles, so they really lack the sophistication of Pendragon's clues. Really, these are groaners.
    Helpful hints.
If it ends with an ellipsis (...), adding the work will complete the sentence.
A question mark indicates a play on words - a homonym, a synonym. Like clue 2.
Trust me you are going to groan when you see the answers.
Because I'm feeling generous, I'm going to give Papayahead credit for getting The Seagull as the answer to number 11. (Although I don't think it had a name).
I honestly thought number 3 was the most obscure one on this list and that was guessed immediately.
