    Uncle Tom's Cabin

:-? I am doing some questions for school regarding Uncle Tom's cabin, and I do not think it states in the book when the story takes place. I think it is somewhere around the 1850's but I'm not sure. Also, it asks where it takes place, which I think is Kentucky/the Kentucky and the Mississippi area but I'm not sure. Could you please help me out? Thanks so much, Hannah/Jade.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin

I have to assume that you haven't read the book. It begins in Kentucky, but the story rapidly moves into two threads: Eliza and George's story and Uncle Tom's story. George escapes from his master, as does Eliza. Eliza's dramatic crossing of the frozen river into Ohio is one of the most riveting moments in the book; you really should read it yourself. Uncle Tom is sold to Haley, chained, and forced to travel down the Ohio River with Haley on a riverboat. He is later sold to Augustine St. Clare of New Orleans, Louisiana. Meanwhile, Eliza is reunited with her husband, George, and the two of them, along with their son, slowly make their way to Canada. Uncle Tom is happy with St. Clare, but he misses his family. St. Clare promises Tom his freedom, but he dies before he can free Tom. So, St. Clare's wife sells Tom to an evil man, Legree. Legree owns a plantation on the Red River. Tom dies there. Eliza and George eventually migrate to Liberia.

As for when the story takes place, it is supposed to be current. By that I mean that the story is supposed to have taken place around the same time that it was written.

Hope this helps at least a bit.
