a poem with an original title

a poem with an original title

if i could write a poem
and like a spider post it on the web
    then i would be more
than this coward you see here instead

    if i had the vanity
to think my words might impact
then i'd write on a scrap of paper
and give it to the sea

and if i should dream that the winds will change
and blow me back across the sea
i would not be this oarsman you see
    stranded on a sinking ship

but tell me friends, although many of you despise me
if i was to give you a poem
that i had composed for you and you alone
would you then hand it back to me
    like you'd give a dog a bone
and say these words are but time
    insignificant and mean
then i would hand you back this poem
and say here i'll trade it for my dream
for in my dream i am writing this poem
and you know what i mean!

    I really like this.

Kind of echoed a poem I wrote last week.

    I enjoyed this poem.
The ending made me think, and I read the poem over a couple of times. Yes, very nice.
