saying hi and asking for help

i am new to the site and hope it is helpful. I am doing an assignment on Great Gatsby. Need help with a few ideas to get started! In Great Gatsby things are seen in two ways: one hand glamourour, romantic, and exciting and on the other hand crude, corrupt, or even disgusting. This double vision applies to people, places and events. I need to show how this is true, and explain its significance. Any help out there. thanks

Hello everyone, I am glad I can share my ideas with you. I live in Miami but came to the US when I was 24. My native language is Spanish. I read all types of books but I prefer literature. I wanted to start a database of all books I have read but that takes too long and I prefer reading. My books are very important to me. I establish relationships with them. I love some books more than others.

    Wink Regards!!!

I love books since I was very little. I have no idea how many I have read. I hope to change ideas and discuss important points to understand books better.
A little bit about me. Very proud to be a latina from Nicaragua. Came to US when I was 24. English is my second language. Spanish literature is my passion.

I recently read War and Peace, move to Memoirs of a Geisha, and now I read the awesome Carlos Fuentes The death of Artemio Cruz, my next victim is Terra Nostra, I read it but I missed something. Then, comes the Kite Runner. Other books are waiting as well.

Pay attention to time is a key element and there are several clues. Important because he ran out of time at the end. The novel spam of time is about three month but it is implicated.
Key elements: beauty, betrayal, ambition, power, Success

Anybody reading Carlos Fuentes The death of Artemio Cruz

I love Carlos Fuentes he presents economic and political problems in a real way. Artemio Cruz is an influential mexican business man. He has made money and he is a powerful figure. In the book, this powerful man is weak and dying. Through, his sickness, he starts looking at his life in retrospect.

Fuentes is unique in his style, sometimes confusing, but he is always deep.In my opinion compared to Carlos some latin writers seems childish or immature.
I like the presence of humbleness and directness in his writing. http://www.online-literature.com/for...es/kaioken.gif

    Hi!

I'm a former English teacher and a classical musician. Reading and theater are two of my passions. I loved teaching and really enjoy discussing books with friends. Stumbling upon this site was just a fortuitous happenstance. I look forward to snooping around and exploring.

    saying hello

    Hi,

I am very interested in literature and was curious about any thoughts on Virginia Woolf. When she wrote Mrs. Dalloway do you think she was also implying that she was unsure of her own sexual identity? I would appear that her mind was somewhat androgynous. Furthermore, could you actually say she had the courage to be herself after such a traumatic childhood and tried to relate the inner unhappiness she had felt her entire life not only in just Mrs. Dalloway but in her other writings?

Hello; especially to all Sam Clemens fans

Having attained the personal chronology of three score and ten years, and having no further use of my perfectly good--though slightly worn--birthday, I am most interested in giving my birthday to my grandson, who has the misfortune to be born on November 11, much too close to Christmas.

I would like to use Sam Clemens' letter in which he bequeaths his birthday to a child, but cannot recall the exact words and can't find the reference.

I think, and fondly hope, it's not that Altz thing.
    Can anybody help?
    Sincerely,
    Sam Fox

Hi everyone, I'm Jenn. I just joined this lovely board and thought I would pop in and say hello. I'm an undergraduate English major with aspirations to become a copyeditor who loves to read. Welcome arunansu!

    Family Tree

My aunt is trying to trace back the family tree and see exactly how we are related to Joseph Korzeniowsi. She has come up against all sorts of misinformation as to the direct relationship between her father and Joseph Korzeniowski. Her father ( my grandfather ) was Carol Korzeniowski also from Poland.Does anyone know how to continue this research ?? She has been to the Boston Library and even went as far as to contact a few geneologists as to the connection. She was told as a girl growing up they were related but not really told how.Anyone have any advice as to how she can go about this ?? She has even sent away to Poland for info ,but she did not get any reply. She is very determined as to figure exactly how she and my father are related to Joseph Korzeniowski.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You !!
