Me too, Niamh; I hear you!

I most recently reached for the hairspray and instead got the can of bathroom foam cleaner, you can imagine the rest....

Oh my God, PL, the story about the skirt is hilarious!

a couple of weeks ago, I was going home from uni. I took the train from Erlangen to Fürth and then walked home from the station. 100 m from the front door, I realized that my keys were gone. I kinda had this coming because I'm very neurotic about my keys and fumble them like every five minutes to make sure they are still there. I was in a trance that day because a "friend" had been given me a lot of sh!t and I'd kinda "dumped" her and felt very guilty about it. Anyways, I walked the way to the station back and forth a couple of times looking for my keys. I distinctly remember playing around with them and tossing them in a flower bed. But no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find them.
So I had to sit outside the front door and wait for my hubby to come home. He had a copy of his keys made the following day.
But the problem was, that one of the ones I lost was the key to the student helpers office at univ. I'd kept my key although I don't work at univ any more. I signed a slip saying I'm responsible for that key etc blabla. So I asked a friend who works at univ what to do about it and she said not to mention it to the secretary and if she (the secretary) should ever remember that I stil had the key I should say "Are you sure? I thought I handed it back in!".
Today, a friend who works as a student helper phoned me on my mobile and told me he's got my keys at the office!!!! I have no idea how they got there and neither does he...

I really think I need to have my head checked!

It's amazing the amount of time we, absent-minded people, can waste just by trying to find things we've misplaced, forgotten, etc. How much time have I spent looking for my glasses when they were either on my nose or on my head.

Talking about keys, here's another story:

When I was a student I worked one summer in a hotel in the French Alps at about 3 hours from my parents's place.

One day, my mother who'd left on holiday somewhere calls me and tells me that she thinks she's left the iron plugged (being absent-minded is a family thing as you can see) and can I please go and check.

I told her that I would ask for a day off the next day and go.

So the next morning I get into my car and drive the 3 hour journey to her place. (It should be noted that this drive included about an hour of mountain roads with sharp turns, NOT the typical highway drive).

When I finally got to the building I got out of the car and ....realized I'd left the keys in my room at the hotel.

I had to drive all the way back, come back again just to find the iron perfectly unplugged and put away....

Yes. I felt much better about my own absentmindedness a month or so later when a friend of mine (not surprisingly, a fellow graduate student) confessed that she had done the exact same thing by forgetting to put her blouse on after ironing and didn't realize it until she got to the conference she was attending. She had to try to act as nonchalant as possible while keeping her wool coat on the entire time in a very well heated building. At least she wasn't the presenter.

Glad my absentminded shame could provide some entertainment.

OMG... couldn't she have sneaked out and bought a blouse or called a friend to bring her one?

    A little thingy happened today.

This morning I had to wake up early to go to work. I was quite tired, you know, doing things mechanically. At some point after I had showered and dressed, I felt that my panties felt strange against my skin. Was not sure why. Unbuttoned my jeans, looked at the panties, found them strange looking too, but was still not sure where the uncanny feeling came from. I was still rather tired so I said whatever and went to work.

At noon, I went to the bathroom at work, and all of a sudden I realized the problem. I had put my panties the wrong way: I had put one leg where my waist should have been and so on, so the panties were all turned over. Well, I could not change anything at work, so I kept the panties like this all day.

My panties are now back into place, thank you.

    An incident that happened today.

I had to go to the other section of my office. There was a security guard sitting at the entrance. He asked me -- Madam, do you have a camera in your mobile? (for some security check). My head was so full of thoughts while I was interrupted like that that I was saying one thing and thinking of something else. I said -- Bhaiya (brother), I dont have mobile in my camera Then I realised what did I say; the guard and I started laughing

My stomach was so sore for the rest of the night. And my dad hasn't let me live it down.
But funnily enough he did a similar thing a short while back, we were eating lunch and we had these wrap things, and he had one to the side but it was sitting in a cup so all the fillings didn't fall out onto the table. So he went to get his drink but picked up the cup with the wrap in it and went to drink it!

That's funny. I have to be careful when I'm working in the garage, especially when I have an open beer and other chemicals open on the workbench - I've caught myself reaching for the mineral spirits more than once.

When I first started using cellphone,a terrible problem came my way.I tried to send messages to my one particular friend and they kept coming back to me.Every now and then I would go running to its beep only to discover my earlier sent messages displayed on the screen! I was annoyed so I went to my father for help.He checked my mobile and only a few seconds later was laughing his heart out.
"You seem to remeber your own number very well!"He said with mocking seriousness.
I was dumbfounded and from that day onward resolved to avoid that embarrassing gadget I knew nothing about!

Absent-minded,I must confess, should be removed from humanity, for being absent-minded will bring trails and tribulations sometimes.

One solution is not to have consternation and be beleaguered,a calm mind is vital no matter what.If absent-mindedness is a whirlwind and an unforeseen one,you must overcome it no matter what. The Lord will trail you, ensuring no absent-mindedness is present.

I have told this story before in the dark recesses of the forum, but enough of you folk are new(new counts as anything short of a year) so might not have seen it.

When I was 6 or 7 I took swimming lessons at the high school nearby, was the only pool nearby (a certain MT had got rid of funding so most school pools got done away with) it had big glass windows where folk could look in. In my excitement to get started my lesson (ah the impetuousness of youth) I kinda forgot to put on my swimming trunks before leaving the change room. Didnt realise until the laughing & pointing started, then turned tail and ran back into the room. Never returned & still cant do what most would consider swimming.......

I'm not sure if this is absentminded or just self centered. Either way we have to hop in the way-back machine to around the time that Metal church was one of my favorite bands ~1989.

Metal Church was touring with Anthrax, small concert halls. My friends and I bought our tickets and were all excited to see Metal Church, at the time Anthrax was just ok. We thought we had plenty of time to catch the show and we were in no hurry to see Anthrax who of course was the opening act. We got to the show just in time to see Metal Church say "Thank You and Goodnight" Unfortunately the billboard charts and my personal taste were not on the same page and Anthrax was way more popular then Metal Church and was indeed the headliners for that particular show.

That reminds me.... A friend of mine did a similar thing when we were learning to swim, but this story has a different twist: He was in a hurry too, but he did not forget his swimming trunks. He left his buoyancy aid in the changing room and jumped straight into the large pool and proceeded to swim its entire length before he realised his mistake. At the same time he realised that he actually knew how to swim... fortunately.
