It turns the farm from animalism as espoused by Major (Marxism/Leninism) to the perverted brand of communism as evinced by Stalin.

When Stalin took over in Russia, he started a huge purge of any opposition - perceived or real - and killed or exiled to the Gulag (punishment camps) every being who he and his minions saw as a threat. In the same way, Napoleon stamps his ownership of the regime onto the farm by doing the same thing - mass murder and changes in the statements about animalism. The farm turn irretrievably from a collective to an oligarchy, and a sinister one at that.
Go to work, get married, have some kids, pay your taxes, pay your bills, watch your tv, follow fashion, act normal, obey the law and repeat after me: "I am free."
