I went house hunting again today. There were two cute ones, one is a major contender and two not so good, and I'm looking at one more on monday.

(was it just yesterday I was thinking of giving up the hunt??)

Ya know what annoys me? My favorite house from yesterday was very clean and very cutely decorated (that's not the annoying part). The current owner is one of those "craftsy" people and she's got all these neat ideas littered about the house. The CO took an old sewing machine stand and put a glass top on it and viola a cute table. If I do decide to buy this house there is no way I could make it as cute as it is now (that's the annoying part)...

But you would want the house to reflect you and your tastes, not those of the previous owner. You would come up with ideas for your home that would seem innovative to anyone visiting you and have them going away thinking 'I wish I could make a home like papayahed'!

My parents did the same thing. They found at a yard sale an old sewing machine stand made out of wrought iron and they put a marble top on top of it and now it sits in their downstairs bathroom as a table with little knick knacks on it.

yeah, I remember that it was damn cool. I may end up attempting it (perfect excuse to get me some new toys ) I am thinking of some modifications though to make it open by moving a book however.

Papaya, have you ever seen a programme called Junk Brothers? they take used furniture people are throwing out & make it into other stuff instead, could be a source of ideas....

I have seen junk brothers. I haven't decided if I'm missing the creativity gene to turn junk into treasure or if I have to much of the laziness gene that balks at turning junk to treasure.

I think I'm going to dump my real estate agent. She treats me like a dumbo and I think she's slighlty racist.

On a second look it does show an opening mechanism. I am not 100% confident about joinery (I am really more structurally inclined, if memory serves Virg is the mechanical engineer round here) with moving parts everything needs to be precise otherwise it just sticks & that would annoy me. It would be a nice project, but I am not sure yet whether I have the tools or patience to attempt it

All you need is a swinging mechanism...

(HaHa sounds like my work. We're having a problem with truck drivers driving off with our ramps still attached to their truck. I've come up with the idea of a swing arm on the platform. only problem is they tell me it would be hard to engineer. I tell them that I did the hard part by coming up with the idea now it's they're turn to make it )

all the techni talk makes my head hurt....
but my bit of travel talk,
    a) makesure you have money or can access money and that your account wont get frozen if you try and access it
    and
    b) for goodness sake be aware of the laws of the place you are going too, eg in prague unless you want to get a nice little fine you MUST cross the road ONLY at designated points and times.
