    Favorite Kafka novel?

All I've read is Metamorphosis, and it wasn't the best ever, but it was decent.
Do you prefer The Castle or The Trial?

I love pretty much everything Kafka has written, but I guess I have to recommend now his Der Verschollene/Amerika, since this is usually forgotten when people talk about him, although - with its almost-positive ending - perhaps the most interesting of his novels and also his earliest.

I didn't like Amerika that much, but thoroughly enjoyed both The Trial and The Castle.Obviously, you can't forget about his short stories - try finding a collection, they're all well worth reading.

The metamorphosis is really an interesting read and of course the write has something to present through it, the modern way man lives with.

“Those who seek to satisfy the mind of man by hampering it with ceremonies and music and affecting charity and devotion have lost their original nature””

“If water derives lucidity from stillness, how much more the faculties of the mind! The mind of the sage, being in repose, becomes the mirror of the universe, the speculum of all creation.

I just read The Trial and really enjoyed it. I'd suggest you grab The Trial and give it a try, you'd be surprised how much it will draw you in.

The Metamorphosis (if that counts as a novel). I really liked that book.

And I prefer The Castle to The Trial.

When it comes to his short stories, 'In the Penal Colony' is my favourite. That was immense.

The castle. It's nicely descriptive in the good Kafkaesque style. And it follows the protagonist K. well, through all the estranged relationships he makes.

The Trial was pleasantly shocking for me. The Castle is also a masterpiece and Amerika or The man who disappeared is a very decent novel. I haven't read Metamorphosis yet and I plan to enjoy it at christmas time....

The Trial is one of my favourite novels. Still, The Castle is the one that captivated me the most. Both are masterpieces. I really liked Metamorphosis, but I think that the aforementioned novels are superior to it.

Actually I prefer Amerika the best out of Kafka's 3 novels - I believe The Metamorphosis is a novella or novelette, certainly not a novel.
I like The Trial and The Castle about equally well.

One of my favorite short stories of Kafka is A Hunger Artist... I think it captures Kafka the most, or his struggles in life.
