I saw Chapter 27 yesterday, one of the two Mark David Chapman movies to be released this year. Jared Leto gained 60 lbs for the role and got gout in the process. He gives a strong performance, but the film slips through first time director, J.P. Schaefer, fingers.

Anyway, it's a cute collection of short stories, some make sense, some just leave you a bit puzzled. 8/10
I enjoyed the Coen's entry with Steve Buscemi and the mime family. My favorite was the one with the Haitian guitarist. I would say more, but I don't want to ruin it for any who haven't seen it.

Yes, Antiquarian, I would agree with your rating and that it was a little slow going at times. The first film was 'dynamite' I thought and in comparison the second paled a bit, but I tried not to compare somehow, and maybe the night I watched it, I was in the mood for it, who knows? I loved the visuals so much. I get caught up in that aspect of films sometimes and just go with it, and seeing it on my new TV was wonderful. So islandclimber, I agree with you also, not as good as the first one. But I did enjoy it anyway, as Antiquarian said.

"The Holy Grail" - such a classic in humorous films!!! I could watch that a zillion times and still laugh myself silly. In fact, this friend and I were just talking on the phone and recalling the various scenes and we were crying, laughing so hard. Who can top it?

BBC North and South (2004). 20/10
Brilliant! Watched all four hours of it yesterday evening after work, and i had to watch all four hours of it again this morning i loved that much. Move over BBC Pride and Prejudice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been dying to see this film for a long time now. I think I will request that my library get it for me. I almost purchased it a few times from Amazon. So, Niamh, it is that good? Are you saying - better than P&P - the BBC version? I have the novel here - on 'my to be read someday' reading list. A friend sent it to me with other books she no longer wanted to keep. Lucky me!

Oh yeah Geoffrey rush was in a tv film "The life and death of Peter Sellers" a few years back which was just amazing too... I love Peter Sellers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the original "Pink Panther" movies are so funny... Does your doooog bite? hahahaha
I will have to check out that tv film. It sounds interesting. I like Geoffrey Rush in a 'little known indedpendent' movie, "Lantana", set in modern day Australia. It's a pyscholgical type thriller and quieter and more nuanced performance for Rush. I always watch that film, when it comes into my library, even though by now, I know the ending, which is a surprise. Also, stars Barbara Hershey, Anthony LaPaglia, Rachael Blake.

How 'bout Sellers in the film about the atom bomb - "ban the boom!"? again the old brain is not functioning and I must go look it up. *talking to Janine's brain, do wake up!!!* Got it now - "Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" - classic!

This weekend I saw Hogfather which is more of a mini series than a movie but I saw it on a dvd so it counts. I'm a huge Discworld fan so it was fun to see it play out in "real life". I was a little disappointed by DEATH's appearance, his voice was great but his costume was so stiff and awkward...I know he's death and a skeleton and all that but still...it seemed like it could've been a little more 'natural'. The character of Teatime was incredibly creepy, definitely did justice to the book there.

The other movie I saw this weekend was Brothers, a Danish movie by Susanne Bier. This is the 3rd of her movies I've seen and they've all been incredibly intense and thought provoking. She does this weird thing with close ups that is...well...weird... but other than that, I love her films. They can be frustrating because nothing is tied up in tidy little bunches, it's messy and there is never a clear place or person to place your sympathies but when I get right down to it, that's one of the reasons why I like them. I think this movie will stay with me for awhile.

porcelain bones strong enough to carry a life,
    but weighty and unmovable

I like the psychedelic aspects. And the acting by Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro
    Very good film.

You guys know this is the film that "You Got Mail" was based on, right? There was a very good Broadway musical based on it called "She Loves Me".

You are talking about the one with William Holden, right? That was the only reason I stopped to watch it! The play didn't do much for me. The film is OK. Then it has William Holden in there! So, I have to like it out of obligation.

I am speechless, at a loss for words, tearing my hair out here... I mean, the BBC Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle version was good... just not comparable...
I've seen the 1940 version. I even own it. The BBC version is good because it is much more faithful to the book. But the 1940 version isn't unfaithful. I suppose I lean towards the other because it is longer and I get more of the story. I just never understood why their fashions didn't fit the period more. Oh, I don't care. Greer Garson is wonderful as always. I really like Olivier's Darcy. I really like this version.

It's too bad he hasn't been in anything of quite that caliber since, or not that I've seen...
The second "Elizabeth" film I have yet to see. I am expecting it to be good no matter what. I just don't want to be disappointed in it.
"Shine". Very good film. Brilliant soundtrack, by the way.
Oh, and "Quills". I LOVE IT!!!! The film that started my Joaquin Pheonix obsession! I love this movie! I love Rush's performance in there! I haven't seen it in years, though. Now I have been put in the mood for it again.

I wanted to see this, but I missed it. So, yes, to reply to your message, Niamh, I WILL watch it! I will have to see if I can obtain it from Netflix.

I thought the other film was out last year already. At least that is what I think I read. I know that they said that this one was better than the first movie that was released.

A tv station that shows classic movies had a Godfather marathon on yesterday. I watched both Godfather and Godfather, Part II. I've seen both many times, and I just keep on loving them! 10/10 for both.

Oh, I am such a ditz! It was ON my Netflix list already! I put it on there so long ago that I forgot it was on there!

Well, I "upped" it on my list to come after "The Assasination of Jesse James" and "There Will Be Blood". Those are my next two movies to come. So, I will be watching "North and South" after them. I will be sure to give my review.

I'm with you (except I only watched part II yesterday). Then there was a show on today about Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano, et al, and their dealings in Cuba. I didn't realize how closely The Godfather Part II mirrored real events. It is a shame that Coppola had to besmirch the first two films with the almost unwatchable Part III

You've never read the book? Oh, I read the book years ago. Heaven only knows where I stashed it away to in this house! I am afraid that I will end up liking the film so much now that I will have to read the book, too. I just don't know where I have hidden it. It is somewhere in this house, though. That I know! It is a very good book, though.

Oh, you're so right about Part III! It was embarrassing, really. I watched to the end only out of morbid curiosity!

Charlotte's Web with real people. It was very good and true to the story although there were a few scenes I didn't like.
