Okay, this is silly, but I've just found the themesong to my life, hope you like it
Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcOZ6xFxJqg

And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind

And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise 'em with the victory cry
Say, we can act if want to
    If we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude and totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile

We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine

    Welcome to Live RP

    Placebo is so sweet!

and then AFI is the best punk band ever, their two new albums are great as well!

and then for emo Brand New has a new album that is so so so sick... The songs "Jesus Christ", "Millstone", "Limosine", "Sowing Season", "Luca" are all so good..

David Bowie is so rad... his four old albums, "Space Oddity", "Ziggy Stardust" "Aladdin Sane", and "Hunky Dory" are so sweet and who could pass on his style!

Zeppellin is the greatest rock band of all time, albums I-IV are great with Zeppellin III being my favourite...

Thrice is an amazing punk band

    Arcade Fire is good...
Joy Division is one of the original punk bands, they just did a movie about them called "Control"--- really good... and the songs "Transmission", "Love Will tear us Apart", "Leaders of Men" and "Warsaw" are so good...

Billy Idol--- Eyes Without A Face, Flesh for Fantasy, On A Blue Highway, Dancing With Myself...

System of A Down has some good songs...
    Alkaline Trio is good...
Dashboard, though I hate to admit it, I like some like "Shade of Poison Trees"
    The Beatles!
    Michael Jackson!!! "Billie Jean"!!!!!!
    Imogen Heap "Hide and Seek"
    Tegan and Sara "So Jealous"
    some of Snow Patrol
    Modest Mouse
    The Pink Spiders!
    Rolling Stones
    Supertramp
    Interpol
    CSNY
and if you take just one song from this list---------- it has to be
"Bongo Bong" by Manu Chao!!! so sweet!

Until it Sleeps (I think this is the perfect song for emo-kids ) and One by Metallica
the album Best of the Beast by Iron Maiden. if you can't get the whole album, go for these songs: Fear of the Dark; Bring your Daughter to the Slaughter; The Evil that Men do; Running Free; Hallowed Be Thy Name

i'll second Dire Straights/Mark Knopfler, Led Zeppelin and Girls just wanna have fun by Cyndi Lauper

I have been waiting for a thread like this
    Ookay...

I have highlighted some personal favourites in a different colour. Apologies in advance for bombarding you with all this music.

    Jimmy Eat World
Quite possibley my favourite band. Labelled as emo - they're not . Songs range from pure alternative rock with kick-*** guitar tunes, to more melodic sounds (all with excellent lyrics.) I would recommend every single song they've ever written, but here are some of the best...
    23
    The Authority Song
    Night Drive
    Believe in what you want
    A Sunday (Acoustic)
    Work
    Lucky Denver Mint

    Greenday
Okay we're going a little more punk now Some of the greatest lyrics ever here; absolute genius. Definitely some powerful anti-establishment here.
    Jesus of Suburbia
    Holiday
    Letterbomb
    Brain Stew
    Redundant
    Walking Contradiction

    Panic! At the Disco
You'll either hate them or you'll love 'em. They receive alot of harsh criticism, but honestly, they really are quite good at what they do. Their music is definitely unique; an acquired taste.
    Build God, then We'll Talk
    Time to Dance
Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off
    I Write Sins not Tragedies
    Mad as Rabbits
When the Day met the Night
    Nine in the Afternoon

    Plus 44 | +44
Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, both former Blink 182 members, formed a new band with some other guys no one cares about named +44. They are pretty awesome
    Baby Come On
    Little Death
    No it Isn't
    When your Heart Stops Beating

    The Kings of Leon
    Knocked Up
    On Call
    Mcfearless
    Charmer
    Fans

    Motion City Soundtrack
    Strange... yet brilliant
LG F.U.A.D. [Lets get ****ed up and die]
    Everything is Alright
    The Future Freaks Me Out

    Kate Nash
Here we have Londoner Kate Nash. Once again, very unique music. I went to see her in concert with a friend - she was outstanding.
    Foundations
    Mouthwash
    The Nicest Thing

    Merry Happy

    Maximo Park
I'm not entirely sure where you're from, but this is a British indie rock band; quite quirky may I add.
    Our Velocity
    Apply Some Pressure
    Girls that Play Guitars
    Kiss you Better

    The Eagles
    Need I say more?
    Hotel California
    Desperado

    On the Border
    James Dean
    Witchy Woman

Random Song Selection that should go on your Ipod
    ToothPaste Kisses - The Maccabees
The Only One I know- The Charlatans
    Men's Needs - The Cribs
Soul meets Body - Deathcab for Cutie
Push the Ghost - The Twang
Do you mind if I Cry? - Betty Curse
    Celebrity Skin - Hole
"Then I feel, Harry, that I have given away my whole soul to someone who treats it as if it were a flower to put in his coat, a bit of decoration to charm his vanity, an ornament for a summer's day"

Hey that's great stuff. I wasn't sure if anyone else liked Dire Straits and even Knopfer solo.

anything by the Red Hot Chili peppers. Consider looking into the John Frusciante solo stuff, my favorite being his album The Will To Death. He's an amazing song writer, and its nice to hear him outside the context of the chili peppers.

    Dreamcatcher by Secret Garden

chances are you won't like it but I thought I'll give it a shot. New age-y and with an interesting intro.
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
    "To talk of many things:
    Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
    Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
    And whether pigs have wings."
