Anyone for Coffee? (no boys allowed)

I always wind up growing my hair almost to the middle of my back and then donating it to chop it real short. Everytime I chop it, I tell myself that I want to keep growing it long again and not chop it. It's getting to be the chopping time again.

My cousin's wife has her hair nearly to her knees! No joke! It's beautiful, but she once went to the beach and didn't bother to put it up. She spent two hours that night trying to comb it out.

i'm the same! Always a mistake cutting short.

Humm so IM really sick of these split ends and I think I may just go whole hog an shave my head and start from scratch...
my mum says that shaving is a bad idea because my hair will grow back prickaly and irritate me, so the question is has anyone here by anychace had to shave their head?
And how long till it grew back... my hair is nearly mid back length again now... so obviously I dont mean all the way back but a decent covers the pointy tops ofmy ears length,

I have moderate to sever psoriasis and I have considered shaving my head several times in order to treat my scalp more effectively but have never gotten up the nerve. I'd be interested in knowing if any other women here have ever done it too.

I have a question. What do you think would be a good haircut for someone whose hair is wavy and has a tendency to curl at the end? When I say curl, I mean true ringlets.

I saw an article about wavy hair (let's just forget about the curls for now) and they said to get the hair cut in layers. So, I got it cut in layers (supposedly) and it never looked right. Three people couldn't get it right. Now I am letting it grow out again (but the split-ends are terrible!).

I have to have my hair long enough so that I can tie it back. I need to tie it back for dance and in the summertime. What is a hairstyle that you think could work? I made the decision to not get a haircut for awhile (I can trim my own hair), but if I give in (which I might), what hairstyle do you think would work best?

I would post a photo if I had one (every picture either has my hair tied back like a spinster or done up in some sort of style!). So you will have to use your imagination with this! Thanks.

That i think is where the problem is.
For layers to really work in wavey hair it needs to be long. I have wavy/curly mad hair thats straight in some places and like you was told i should get layers. Had hair shoulder length (just above) and it was ghastly with layers. I hated it when i got layers put in, always getting told that they would help my hair, but they never did. Now my hair is much longer, and i have layers and it is much better. Adds shape.

you should let it grow longer. If you go to the hairdressers get them to just trim the split ends and use a thinning scissors. This mkes a big difference. (trust me!) When you hair is partially down your back get the layers back in but make sure the shortest one is just below the jawline. And get a side fringe (think its bangs to you).

LadyW, considering your description, your hair sounds a lot like mine. Keep it a little past shoulder length. Mine is about two inches past my shoulders

Reading both of these, I have something to say and to ask. First of all, it is funny that you said to get the shortest part in front to be cut no shorter than the jawline. I asked them to do that and then magically everything else got cut so short! I tried to explain to them that I didn't want the choppy layers. I wanted the sort that seemed to flow into the hair. That was actually how the magazine described it after I'd gotten that haircut. I just thought that somebody else in the world actually thinks the same way as I do! How could the hairstylists not understand what was being asked of them? So, they pretty much chopped my hair and made it much shorter than expected. I also told them NOT to style it with any sort of product and they always did. It kind of amazed me how different people, who work in different salons, did the same thing!

As for what the length it should be, I have a question. Currently (in has been going through a slow growth period) it is about 1 1/2 inches past the middle of my back. So, if I would pull my hair straight (at least the longest part that I have) it would add another inch or so. So it is kind of long right now. Now, do you think that I should maybe try to grow it a little longer? That way when they cut the layers, I will be able to have longer layers, right? Meaning, if my hair is longer, and I ask for layers, there should be enough hair leftover to give me long layers. That makes sense, doesn't it? I am just trying to think of how to ask them to do it.

I want to get bangs. I haven't had them for years, and if I never got layers, I would at least have them to add a little more character to my face again.

What has your experience been with male hairdressers? Have you ever had one? I am seriously considering trying to find one to go to. I have never had a man do my hair. So I can't complain about them. Women have always messed mine up, though. Whenever I see a man do someone's hair on TV, it always looks better than when a woman does it. So I was thinking (and hoping) that maybe a man could come through for me.

print them out oand tell the hairdresser that they are the look you are looking for. If your hair is already long well them yes you should have long layers.

My parents are really thrifty so I've never gone to salon (yes, I can hear Shalot chocking on her breath ). I last cut my hair three years ago and usually cut my own ends in the bathroom.

(oooh, does anyone have any idea what I should put in it, since I moved to a cold climate? I'm confused now!)

heheh, my parents are the same. they are soooo stingy. when I was still living with them, they simply wouldn't pay for a hair cut. So I got used to cutting my own hair and I've never been to a salon in my whole life. I have curly, bushy hair, so it doesn't matter. even if I cut off a bit too much in one place, nobody will notice because it's just a big mess anyway

Your post made me think of my son and second daughter. They both have very, very curly hair...total ringlets. My daughter has hair to her waist but it's so curly that it looks shoulder length. When my son was in his teens, he was in a band and wanted his hair long so he grew it out. Well, I was doing laundry one day and found a drivers license and gave it to my daughter who put it in her purse because we just glanced at the photo and thought it was hers. My son couldn't find his licenses and was going to go get a replacement when my daughter cleaned out her purse and realized that she was carrying his licenses as well as hers. They look so much alike I didn't notice it and she didn't either. He has kept his hair very short from that time on.

When a boy is old enough, if he wants long hair that's his choice. But I hate when some people make their sons have long hair when they're only 4 or 5 years old. I have a cousin who has a five year old son who's blonde hair is almost to the middle of his back. It's really difficult to tell that he's a boy. The parents are stubborn though and refuse to cut it.
