Technology as a whole was and still is used and designed for a purpose, which is making the human race and our actions/thoughts faster, and our desires easier to be obtained. The overall flaw of the human race as a whole is greed, in the sense of every aspect of our daily activities, whether it be going to church in order to gain a higher spot for yourself in the after life (I personally am an athiest so this doesant apply to myself), or getting up in the morning to go to work.
So you may ask "how does greed apply to television?" Well think about it, why do most of us watch television? Most do it for fun or entertainment, some do it just because they have nothing else to do. This will eventually lead to a more advanced state of fahrenheit 451, where the only thing humans will strive for is a more intense state of entertainment. At this point, productivity will cease to exist, save partially finished AI servents which will bring food and refreshments to the chairs where humanity will die out. So, in ending, or flaw "greed" which powers capitalism will in the end eat out its bearers, US. I know its a sad prediction, but it will eventually happen when everyone can get anything for nothing.

she's implying that while we're watching tv we are like those animals that sit around everyday. just lounging around. sloth-ily.

Sloth by definition means: habitual disinclination to exertion, indolence; Laziness.

I only mentioned atheism, because you brought it up...I don't think it matters if you are an atheist or not...I have no bloody idea why you felt like sharing that. Anyways, I meant the lack of activity version of sloth, not the animal, and not the pack or group of small bears.

Oh ok, I dont know why I mentioned it, at the time I must have thought it had something to do with my statement but after I reread it I've decided that it is rather out of place. Anyways, that aside, I do 100% agree with your statement, we can already see signs of this becoming more apparent, i.e. obesity in the USA. Life has become easy, so people turn to eating and fooling around on the computer gaining instant satisfaction, rather then studying or exercising with long-term goals ahead of them.

some pieces of technology, to me, seem to be more for zoning out to and vegging on, then there are others where it forces you to think. greatest examples of how videogames make me think. when i was playing halo with my friend, i started zoning, then i noticed i died a lot more than when i wasn't and actually concious. and i managed to get beaten 49 to 12. my friend is also very strategically inclined. sometimes, i turn on my ipod just to think. if i don't have it on, people are always talking to me and it gets annoying, but when it's in, no one talks to me cause they know i can't hear them

and i beeleeve i am veree well at grammar (every part of my being hates that sentence, it's right there with "i seen you yesterday" IT IS "HAVE SEEN" PEOPLE!
life philosophy: "if one wants to succeed, they must become independent, if one wants to be independent, one must strive past the dificulties, using them to shape future desicions, like a sword being folded, every fold is a hardship overcome, and every fold removes one more imperfection that would destroy the completed version"

I believe that it is innate. If people are - I don't want to use the word "thinker" because it may sound too much- but prompted to think, if it is in their nature, I believe that conveniences will not prevent them from doing so. Still, it is true that distractions did exist.
