Do they have to be celebrities that are currently in the limelight? :P

    -Frank Sinatra
    -Dean Martin
    -Josh Groban
    -Douglas Sills
-Ellen Degeneres (I know I flubbed the spelling of her name somehow)
-When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Lucille Ball.
-Debra Messing (Is that it? Grace from "Will and Grace")
-If Bea Arthur was younger, maybe...

No. Just take a look at the photos that I've posted! I have two posts and the second one definitely doesn't have anyone that is "current".

    -Dean Martin

    -Douglas Sills
Douglas Sills, huh? Not bad, but I never thought I would see that name on this list!

Oh, you mention Debra Messing, that reminds me of how I LOVE Sean Hayes, who acts in Will and Grace too!! He's SO CUTE, and a wonderful actor!!

Wow, judging from this YouTube video I found Vic Damone is pretty good. You just may have turned me on to something here. Thanks!
Haha, gotta love The Rat Pack. Sammy Davis Jr would be on the list too, but he's cuter in the "aw" sense more than the "hot d*mn!" sense.

Oh man, it's definitely Douglas Sills' voice. Just the way he belts those notes out on the soundtrack to The Scarlet Pimpernel... Plus, he has nice teeth. :]

    EDIT:
Sweets America: That he is! It's hard to imagine him ever aging because he's just got such a youthful face. ^^ Like Matthew Broderick and Sally Field.

Vic Damone is positively fabulously fabulous!!!! He is the great obsession of mine! And I have many! He is just the best! After all, Sinatra said that Damone has "the best pipes in the business"!

I know. Sometimes I feel guilty never naming him. Then I hear him sing and I think "He's pretty great, too".

Good teeth are always a plus! Oh, I LOVE him on "She Was There"!! I just love him as Percy! At least what I have heard of him in the recording! Then again, Terrence Mann is wonderful singing "Where's the Girl"! **swoons** Not much to look at, but he has a good voice!

XD Well, then he MUST be good. Any albums or songs of his that you recommend for a beginner?

Of course there's also fact that Frank and Dean constantly made fun of him. But he mocked himself, too, so I guess it was all in good fun. (Then again, it really went back and forth every which way. The Rat Pack wasn't so much a musical group as it was a bunch of friends messing around onstage ) Yeah, "Birth of the Blues" is enough reason to love Sammy.

YES. He holds that last note in "She Was There" for fourteen seconds, and in the reprise of "Into The Fire" he holds for fifteen, give or take. He was the perfect Percy, right down to the goofy laugh and everything! You're absolutely right about Terrence Mann, nobody else could play "Shuffle-On" so well. He put so much intensity into "Falcon In The Dive," it was insane!

Well, there are albums that I could recommend, but I think, as you are a "beginner", I would suggest 2 "collections". They are:

*Best of the Mercury Years (one of my favorite CD's)
    *The Complete Columbia Singles Collection

This way you are getting a "taste" of his music. Plus, they are GREAT collections!!! These are the 2 that I consider a MUST for a beginner! If you like him enough (I highly doubt that you won't! ), then I would tell you what albums to get. Definitely get those 2, though!!

Oh, boy! Someone else who actually times the length that someone holds a note! I thought that I was the only one! This is my 4th favorite musical from theater! I love it! You got me in the mood for it again. So, I am currently listening to it! Yes, he does hold that note THAT long!! Ah, great stuff!

Thank you so much! I'll look for them next time I'm at Borders. We need to form some kind of "Oldies Lovers Evangelization" group or something. Just think, how many people would get their lights punched out if any of the old boys could see the state show business was in today? ;D

Doesn't mean it isn't a nerdy thing to do, though. It's just more out in the open now.

Me, too!! Hahaha, it's impossible to listen to "The Creation of Man" and not be smiling by the end. It's a shame how few people have ever heard of Pimpernel or read the book. Fourth? What other ones do you like?

    Whoo, thread derailment!

Yes he is JUST WONDERFUL. I love how he acts with his whole body and face expressions. He is also very cute and has an interesting acting in a independent movie that I love which is called 'Pieces of April'.

I just saw a preview for this ridiculous movie, Fool's Gold. But it reminded me that I still, absolutely, shamelessly LOVE Matthew McConaughey. Ever since I saw A Time to Kill, which is really quite a cheesy move. Oh my god I love him.
