I actually saw "Do the Right Thing" when it was first out in theaters. I saw it a couple of times since then, also. The kind of movie you have on in the "background" while doing other things! I liked it enough, but I actually enjoyed just watching "Mo' Better Blues" more. I have to be honest. I absolutely couldn't stand "Jungle Fever". If he thought he was making some sort of film to get people "talking" and to start a little controversy, it didn't work with me. I actually thought that it was kind of silly.
I know that I have seen all of his films except for "Bamboozled". There is someone in there that I truly
detest and I couldn't even get paid enough money to sit through it. I also only saw parts of "Girl 6". Now, having mentioned this, I will say that I, basically, find his films to be average. I don't really see him as this great filmmaker. Having said that, though, when he does make a good film, it is a VERY good film. "Malcolm X" was a very good biopic. One of the best that I have seen. Though, as it is a true story, he could've left out his "trademark" shot (the close-up while the actor is "gliding" along past everyone and everything else in the scene). I don't personally "get" that. Anyway, I think that he did a fine job with "Crooklyn" and "Clockers", but I think where he excelled as a filmmaker is with "25th Hour" and "Inside Man". I loved these two movies. Especially "Inside Man"! That was a great movie. I am a little disappointed that he is going to make a sequel to "Inside Man". I think it is just best to leave the story alone now. Of course, I am not a filmmaker. So what do I know, right?
This is just all my personal opinion, by the way.
