    Harmonica

    Harmonica

    An instrument of sad hobos,
    cowboys,
    prisoners,
    and loners everywhere,
    you wail the heartache of
    long lost love,
    long lost horizons,
    and long lost freedom.

    You become the lips,
    voice,
    soul -
    the very essence
of the lives of the lonely -
    when they need you.

Calling a dingy pocket your home,
and a loner your only friend,
you keep on crying out the
    sad, sad songs
    without a single complaint.

I thank you for the understanding companionship.

God, this is touching! I mean, it was moving in a somewhat detached way until it became even MORE touching when you identified yourself as one of those who are companioned by a harmonica.

That was a cool poem...I play harmonica. I have for 17 years now...I think you got it right. It fits in my pocket, it travels so easily, and you can really let your emotions out with it. I've got an amp, mic, and a coffin case full of harmonicas...I'll post a picture someday. I love the poem though... Cheers B

Coffin case? What guides you to choose the particular one you want to play at any given time?

Here - hoping it doesn't offend - is something about Harmonica's big brother:

An accordion player was driving a long distance to a gig. After a while he pulled over for lunch. While he was eating he remembered that he’d left his accordion in full view on the back seat of his car! He rushed outside but was too late.

Just as he'd feared, someone had smashed open the back window and

Thanks for the compliments. Last night I got to going through some boxes looking for some gift wrapping paper and I found the harmonica I used to play.
This poem jumped in my head and I quickly jotted it down. I'm glad people are liking it so far.

Oooo, bad prince. LOL I really like the accordion. At our symphony's recent Christmas concert, Santa, on the accordion, the harpist and the first violinist played a trio on Bach-Gounod's Ave Maria. It was absolutely beautiful.

One of the reasons for more than one harmonica is that they are tuned in different keys. I like the harmonica too.

And now...I really liked your poem DoubleX. It sounds like the harmonica does for you what the cello does for me.
I'm in love with The Vinegar Man and Mr. Tanner, but be careful, it could just as easily be you.

Hmmm....I don't believe I was wearing anything when I wrote about the cello.

    Pretty funny there fella.

    Exclamation

You had me from: "you wail the heartache". A musician myself, I miss the days a friend of mine would play his in with me and other friends. I like Buddy Green, one of the masters of the harmonica, you can find him named on many records as the harmonica player, when he's not singing and doing shows himself. There's a special place for harmonica players, round the fires is one. I never could seem to learn, which is strange, I play by ear so many instruments. Drat. Good poem! Here's to all harmonica lovers!
    Some of us laugh
    Some of us cry
    Some of us smoke
    Some of us lie
But it's all just the way
that we cope with our lives...

Ah! And was it chilly in the room? I did think I detected goose-bumps here & there.

Is this to be the start of a whole new school of literary analysis, applied to all our poems or just to yours? I'm tempted to go back over them & see if I can detect which were written in nothing but bra & panties; which, perhaps in full evening dress, a cigarette in a gold and ivory cigarette holder held elegantly between fingers with perfectly lacquered nails?

No, silly, I flat out told you I was naked in the poem (Brown) but now you'll have me thinking what various gentlemen might be wearing while they are writing. hehe
MY APOLOGIES TO XX FOR THIS HIJACK....see what harmonicas can do?

One other thing, Prince. Check out my recipe in my blog and let me know if it sounds good to you.

Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program!

HMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmn....! The accordion...I live in Louisana, and it it the home of the ACCORDIAN. Ever heard of a Concertina....its an accordian not on steroids....music wise, check out Buckwheat Zydeco, Geno Delafose, Keith Frank, and Steve Riley....

The keys of the harmonica are essential...I have 5 or 6 different keys...if you want to know more, the key of C is the kindest and easiest to learn....but if you progress, you will need more.

When I spent some life in Montana, there was a woman that gave me a sticker that said "Accordion music is rock music!" Cheers, B

Perhaps because it's a little more difficult to play an accordian in bed....
