The source of any bad writing is the desire to be something more than a person of sense--the straining to be thought a genius. If people would say what they have to say in plain terms, how much eloquent they would be.

I haven't read The Old Man and the Sea in a year or two. Did you know that it was once a section of Islands in the Stream?
I've been thinking of a good gift and I have two things in mind, but I can't decide. I am going to destroy the suprise and ask which one do you perfer.
Short stories that Hemingway wrote while in High School, or even more hard to find Faulkner's poetry?
Let me know and I'll transcribe and send one to you.

Happy Really Late birthday, Virgil!!!![]()
No I did not know that (Islands in the Stream). Oh Nick you don't have to give me a gift. What do you mean by transcribe? Hand type them in? Sounds like a lot of trouble. You don't have to do it for me. But I'll tell you. One of the things that helped my writing when I was young was transcribing good works of fiction. So because I think it will help you in your writing, I'll let you transcribe a Hem short story for me.Thank you Nick. You're a great guy.

Hey, Virgil, people are still posting birthday greetings...neat to have your birthday go on and on all week long. Brrrr..Minnesota sounds too cold for me. Dress warm - plenty of sweaters! When do you leave? Hope you have fun! They have gotten tons of snow in Wisconsin; don't know about Mn.
..and...V, that was a wonderful long 'thank you' you wrote to everyone. You sure have a lot of Lit Net friends. You should feel honored and proud. Everyone loves you here! 46 today, right? haha

Tomorrow. Not sure if I'm bringing my laptop yet.
Everyone is so wonderful. It humbles me. And you know I don't get humble easily.and...V, that was a wonderful long 'thank you' you wrote to everyone. You sure have a lot of Lit Net friends. You should feel honored and proud. Everyone loves you here! 46 today, right? haha![]()

I think you're lucky, It's supposed to be fairly warm this week, I was amazed this morning. Now I know I'm not in Minnesota but it's fairly close and if we're warm chances are they are. Of course what I consider warm and what you consider warm.....
*sigh* How many times can I say warm in one sentence without sounding redundant?

Happy Much Belated Birthday Virgil!!
Sorry I missed it, but I just dug myelf out of the cave after writing exams! Hope it was a great day!
I'm weary with right-angles, abbreviated daylight,
Waiting for a winter to be done.
Why do I still see you in every mirrored window,
In all that I could never overcome?
Yeah, I haven't been here in ages. I got caught up in classes and studying. Exams are next month, but we're done with all the classes now, so I'll hopefully be around more oftenI'd LOVE to join for a book read, it's just that I already got tons of reference books to go through, not to mention that I'm still finishing up my novel course reading (I'm currently reading the final novel this term Silas Marner). But I'll try my best, if not in a book read then in discussions in general...I'll be around anyways..
