A Scanner Darkly 9/10
It was a little hard to follow at times, but otherwise it was pretty good. Keaneu Reeves Wynona Ryder, Woody Harrelson and Robert Downy Jr. star in this animated film about a group of drug users and the under-cover narcotics agents among them trying to track the source of a dangerous, brain damaging, addictive drug called Substance D.
It's based on the semi-autobiographical book by Philip Dick, written in 1977, after he and several of his friends are permanently affected by their heavy drug use in the late sixties and early seventies.

I don't think i like Benigni at all. Although there were two Jarmusch films ("Down by the law" and "Coffee and cigarettes") where he wasn't bad at all, i admit. But overall i find him..annoying

I have Coffee and cigarettes and yes, he was tolerable in it. He was the nervous espresso drinker, right? But he's not my favourite actor either for talent or looks (a far cry from Johnny Depp for sure!).
And he always seems to act alongside his wife in his films...
The other film in which he was ok so to speak, was Il piccolo diavolo (The little devil), but it did have Walter Matthau as well.

August Rush ~ I really liked it. It's about a prodigy inspired to compose music based on the cacophonous sounds of everyday life. The movie is set against the backdrop of NYC with on location scenes at the Julliard School of Music. The boy roams the streets, an orphan. The end is beautiful, one of those rare films where the audience knows what the characters must find themselves. Highly recommend it.

You know, I thought this film was OK. I kind of have a little bit of a bad association with it, though. So, I could really take it or leave it. I suppose I would give it about a 7/10.
The music, on the other hand, I would give a 10/10. I loved the music!!

Hi Niamh, I will have to give it a go. I did see trailers so many times now and they all looked really good...interesting format and photography.

Can I rate a Broadway show here? I saw Spamalot with Larry the Leprechaun last week and unfortunately I only thought it was so-so. My wife got the tickets as a present for my upcoming birthday. Larry snuck in free, by the way.
As to the show, when it stuck close to the movie, "Monty Python And The Holy Grail" it was good. But the show felt certain obligations to fitting into a Broadway show format and when it drifted off the movie it was very mediocre. Plus the songs and singing wasn't very interesting. But it was funny in spots so I give it a 5/10.
But remember, I'm a harsh critic. My wife thought it was funny and enjoyable. But she wouldn't rank it wth her best Broadway shows.

Glad at least you wife liked it and laughed. Sounds like fun anyway accompanied by Larry the Leprechaun - that was not easy to spell!Not sure that came out right... Anyway, do see V's pictures of NYC in that thread - they are quite lovely, also entertaining, and they evoke the spirit of the season in the Big Apple. Good job, Virg!

I did like the film when I first saw it, but something happened that made me change my opinion of it. How could a personal situation change my opinion of a film? Well, if you knew the situation, I think it would make sense. You actually wouldn't even have to see the film to understand my reasoning.
I am really hoping that you are just being a "harsh" critic.I was really looking forward to seeing it and I am a tad bit skeptical now. I am afraid that this will turn out to be one of those shows that everyone says they love because they feel that they "have" to. Then you are one of the few people that actually will state your honest opinion. I am a huge Monty Python fan. So I already owned the cast album. Of course, listening to just the music isn't the same as experiencing of the entire show.
If you have the album and like it, I imagine you will like the show LW. You must now know the story and the set and movement on stage was pretty good. I didn't care how the Lady of the Lake became prominant in the play, just so they could add a love interest and have a female character more prominant. And I thought Lancelot being gay was corny. Was that in the movie? I also didn't think there were any memorable songs. But the scenes where they "run away" from the battle and the killer rabbit were well done.I am really hoping that you are just being a "harsh" critic.
