Captain In You
There was a certain young man whom I happened to like,
Blonde with bright eyes and a bit of a stiff little beard;
He told me that I was to refer to him as Captain Pike—
Which was fine with me, then I noticed he stood a bit weird.
He balanced on his left leg with his right one raised to bended knee,
And his left arm on his hip and the other bent all akimbo;
His facial expression was really something marvelous to see,
As if he had been down to New Orleans and swallowed some bad gumbo!
“Pardon my ignorance , if you don’t mind, Captain Pike,
But could you tell a confused soul what the devil you’re trying to do?”
“Aye, laddie! That I will now! I’m doing my practicing like,
For Captain Morgan’s “Have You Got A Little Captain In You?”
I hope that this poem gave you a chuckle or two today:
