    Rock

    echoes of old ashes
    faintly linger on breeze—
    forgotten longings…

    images flicker on
    a broken television—
    what might have been, if…

    static received,
    but message is meaningless—
    lost in the ether…

    why do I undertake
    to put the pieces together
    they are so scattered…

    seems impossible—
    never underestimate
    the will of one man…

    maybe I’m not great—
    some cruel, deem me foolish—
    but I’m like a rock…

    hit me and shatter—
if I fall you may be crushed—
    weather every storm…

    just look at me now…

    Some of us laugh
    Some of us cry
    Some of us smoke
    Some of us lie
But it's all just the way
that we cope with our lives...

    Mountain Morning

    Took a morning walk—
    Need the exercise, they say:
    Dog along—potty…

    Sky turning clear blue,
    Killdeers singing happy tunes,
    Sunlight on my face…

    Gentle smell mown hay,
    Small Blue Heron on riverbank,
    Blacksnake out for sun…

    Amazing things missed,
    Busy people rushing past—
    And they think me weird…

    To find joy in songs
    Of the birds treetop choir—
    Colors wildflowers…

    To behold a snake,
    And marvel, gently hold it—
    Find salamanders…

    Pet the bats in caves,
    Turtles, lizards—unafraid
    Track a bear for fun…

    Watch a fox in den,
Know how many pups she has—
    My mountains are home…

Your, Mountain Morning. Felt like I was there too. I enjoyed the walk.

    Words, these empty words--
    On this paper(?) they collapse
    And die as mere words.

    Voices, void voices--
    Wander about unheard and
    Lost, stilled hushed voices.

I have published poems before in magazines with a fair success rate. I copyright my stuff because I might put out a poetry book one day. I always like to know when I wrote the poem. Glad you liked the poem, it combined several walks, but I have done all of that and more.

    Sadness On the Mountain

    General feeling
That something just might be near—
    A sixth sense?

    Unmarked trail I’m on
Leads so far up the mountain—
    Maybe touch the sky…

    Feel hair on my neck
    Begin dancing, ethereal
    Music I can’t hear…

    Something eerie here—
    Skeleton of an aircraft,
    Now showing in pines…

    I walk over there—
    Company Learjet I surmise—
    Nobody got away…

    Air is sorrowful
    In shadows, forest graveyard—
    Here, they lost their lives…

    My Mountain is tall,
    I respect its rules, father,
    But I must admit…

    This mighty one knows,
    Neither comfort nor pity—
    You can die up here…

    The things that bring joy,
    Fogbound covered, whiteout mean:
    Another bites the dust…

    Becomes your last rest…

    we come and we go
    without word without notice
    leaving prints behind

    never knowing why
left to wonder and to hope
    the tended return

    until then haiku
    continues without...waiting
    creating and performing

    Drive-By II

    gunshots rip the quiet,
    another drive-by shooting, who
    did they kill this time?

    gangbang, its our turf—
can’t kill us if we shoot first,
    pass me the nine-mill…

    blood is thicker than
    water, but that means only
    takes time go down drain…

    brother fights brother,
    killing innocents over
    implied insults, yo…

    look at thin red line
    running towards sewer drain—
    might have saved a life…

    now it marks a spot,
    where senseless murder occurred—
    where a life was lost…

    Think about it now…

    For Cat Lovers

Can't remember where this came from but, it's been on my computer for ages - Enjoy!

    Twice five syllables,
Plus seven, can’t say much but…
    That’s haiku for you.

    You never feed me.
Perhaps I’ll sleep on your face.
    That will surely show you.

    You must scratch me there!
    Yes, above my tail! Behold!
    Elevator butt.

    I need a new toy.
Tail of black dog keeps good time.
    Pounce! Good dog! Good dog!

    The rule for today
Touch my tail, I shred your hand
    New rule tomorrow.

    Grace personified.
    I leap into the window.
    I meant to do that.

    Blur of motion, then…
    Silence, me, a paper bag.
    What is so funny?

    The mighty hunter
Returns with gifts of plump birds…
    Your foot just squashed one.

    You’re always typing.
Well, let’s see you ignore my…
    Sitting on your hands.

    My small cardboard box.
You cannot see me if I
    Can just hide my head.

    Terrible battle.
I fought for hours. Come and see!
    What’s a “term paper”?

    Small brave carnivores
    Kill pinecones and mosquitoes
    Fear vacuum cleaners

    Want to trim my claws?
    Don’t even think about it
I’ve got three legs left to get you.

    I want to be close
To you. Can I fit my head
    Inside your armpit?

    Wanna go outside.
Oh, no! Help! I got outside!
Let me back in right now!

    Oh no! Big one
    Has been trapped by newspaper!
    Cat to the rescue!

    Humans are so strange.
Mine lies still in bed, then screams!
    My claws aren’t that sharp.

    The big ones snore now.
Every room is dark and quiet
    Time for “Cup Hockey”

that was very funny, I've had that cat. Not all were 5/7/5, but all were true.
