Nacho Libre was a very corny, but enjoyable comedy about a Mexican monk who is a lousy cook during the day for orphan children. But by night, he attempts to be a wrestler, and I won't spoil the movie for anyone, by trying to describe this movie. But I did have a good laugh (which I needed), so I'd give this movie about a 7/10 simply because it was corny, it made me laugh, no swearing, and it had a good ending. It stars Jack Black, Ana de la Reguera, Hector Jimenez and Peter Stormare.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3.
Fourth time I've seen it with mum (She likes captain Jack Sparrow).
Loved it.

Overall it was a decent flick if you're into Action/Fantasy/Horror movies. It's still no Pirate's though.
3/5

Shrek the third. Not as good as the original, but still very cute! I only get to watch kid movies now that I am a parent of a couple of toddlers. Sad, I know, but at least I can still read!!

Couldn't sleep the other night and ended up watch "Sliding Doors" again, and got to say it is a good romantic comedy and I watched it all the way through. So, 8/10. Then "Escape from New York", hmmm... Snake Pilkin. In theory this is the sort of movie I ususally do like, but think this one had dated badly. So, 4/10.
Elementary Particles. Damn good, developed with the slow careful attention of a 19th c. novel

Knocked Up. I saw it with my mom. So akward!!! I'm glad my dad wasn't there! Wow...it was funny but graphic...for those of you without kids or not ready for kids and the truths of child birth, well, whenever you hear the word 'crowning' towards the end of the movie. CLOSE YOUR EYES. Trust me.
fantastic four: rise of the silver surfer, it was ok, if you liked the first one, then wait for the movie to come out on video/DVD, if you hated the first one, (like me) then do not see this movie unless you wan to tear something to shreds. it was much like the first one, and i'll agree with the reviews, left gaping holes in the plot which made the movie much less enjoyable, stuff happens in the movie, much, much faster than in real life. in one day, johny learns how to use his new powers.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Absolutely loved it, despite the annoying children at the cinema.
Besides, it's based on a comic book, it doesn't need to make absolute sense. You just need to understand that the world's in danger. The gang all have to pull together and save it with help from the surfer and appreciate the special effects. Being a fan of the other Marvel comic films I loved it. Like I loved Ghost rider and the first Fantastic Four; the Incredible Hulk film was quite crap though.
It helps if you have some prior knowledge of their story (I had very little prior knowledge but I saw some of the cartoons, so the film was easy to get.)
Like I said, loved it.

To Bluebird: Hey there Bluebird, I love some of the comic-inspired movies (just hope outfits like Marvel Inc. get compensated properly along with thier creative people). Have some friends that get nose up about this stuff and their argument is that if movie production companies have so many classics at thier disposal, why would they prefer this lighter less intellectual source? Maybe that is just the point. After all can "Wuthering Heights" really be done any better...again. The one with Sir Lawrence Olivier is the best, in my opinion. True there are classics that have never been taken on...seriously taken on in film. Like Melville"s "Typee" or Joyce's "Portrait of an Artist". The rendition of "The Dead" however is perfect. So if I show up at a cinimaplex with six movies; I guess "Pan's Labarynth" will always be chosen over Spidy but basically we have apples and oranges. quasimodo1
