Hello everyone. I have to say that this site is turning out to be a great find. I am going to be 50 in May 07, soooo, that's a lot of fun right there. I love to read non fiction and current events. My hobbies include, cooking, playing and building guitars, horticulture, sceince, mathmatics, birdwatching, astronomy...I am married with one son and almost all my family on my side is dead, just me and a couple of brothers left and really one of them is kind of a pain. I own my own business, hand carved picture frames and I've fired all my employees sooo, it's just me now. Hope to have a conversation with other lovers of the written word, or I may just rant. See ya out there.

    Hey everyone!
Just thought I would introduce myself - this is my first post so I figured that it would be a good place to start!
I live in the South East of England. I'm 17, and am currently studying for my A Levels in English Literature (of course!), History, RS, and Maths. I'm a bit of a self-confessed boffin, so I love college as I enjoy learning (have done for as long as I can remember!).
Literature and history are my passions - I have a real thirst for understanding more about them - hence joining the forum!
My hobbies include salsa dancing (not very well I might add!), listening to music (mainly indie rock), and being a typical teenager and socialising with my friends. I work at a restaurant as a waitress at the weekends.
I really enjoy reading. I am sure that I have not read as much as many people on the forum, but out of the books that I have read, I have really loved analysing them.
One of the books that has had one of the most profound effects on me, is 'Jane Eyre' by Charlotte Bronte. I have been studying it for my English Literature course, and I found that there is so much within it that I can relate to. The feminist and class issues conveyed were so before their time, and relationships and emotions that Jane experiences can be related to those in real life.
So anyway, I will stop rambling now, and try to work my way around this site!

    Welcome rockthebeat and BlueSkyGB.

Bluesky, your cat avatar looks very familiar to me. I had a cat named Brady that looked just like it...and oddly enough, Brady liked the blues too.

    Hey now Kathycf:

I do believe that we've met in another forum.
    Hint...I use the same avatar.
A mutual friend suggested I seek out this forum and since I do work in a library, this forum looks like it going to be another place I'll be visiting a lot.

    Hello All

Hello everyone! I wanted to start out by saying that I am an avid reader. I have always loved classics though Shakespeare intimidated me until the past year or so in school (I'm an English Lit major so of course I encounter his work on a regular basis) I have also fallen in love with several 20th century writers that I had honestly never heard of. My last term paper was written about Kate Chopin's The Storm and I am now reading The Awakening. I do enjoy modern novels but am more comfortable curling up with Hemingway or Chaucer or Bronte (insert sister here).
Other than reading, I enjoy writing (poetry and fiction), listening to music, spending time with my son and my fiance, and playing with my goofy black lab, Kaya.
