Thread: Introduce Yourself here and say Hi.

Hi! I just joined, in the hopes of getting myself more submersed in literature. I'm actually a grad student going for my MA in literature, but it's hard to find support at my school and additionally, my mother is unwell so I'm staying home a lot to care for her and completing my MA in the meantime. I'd like to connect with others who are also interested in lit. I'm trying to learn more about literary theory, too - I feel woefully inadequate in that area. My current favorite author is Flannery O'Connor but that seems to change from month to month. Whatever I'm currently reading is usually my favorite at the moment.

    Smile A Polite Introduction

My name is Patricia, I'm eighteen years old and at college in East London. I am going to university next year to study English Literature combined with either Philosophy or Law.

I don't like introductions because I feel that no matter how hard you may try you will never find the right words to express yourself in the way that you want to. I hope that you wont take this as too much of a first impression and instead get to know me better.

I found this site while I was researching Metaphysical Poetry (which I absolutely love) and this is where I found the most help. Thank you!

I hope to get to know loads of new people here and to share my ever growing love for Literature.

    Pleased to meet you xxx

Greetings! I'm not very good with introductions, but I'll give it my best shot. Here it goes:
My name is Erik Eliot. I'm twenty years old and I reside in southern California. I attend Mt. Sac community college right now and studying to be an English major. I will be transferring to Whittier college in about two semesters (4 year university). I work at Barnes and Noble as a bookseller and I really enjoy the atmosphere. My passion is writing and it will always be. I've grown up reading and writing since I can remember, and there's absolutely no better feeling to me that getting consumed in a book by the fireplace or writing until four in the morning.
My favorite author by far is Aldous Huxley. I've read almost all of his books/essays and I can't possibly fathom his writing technique and how ahead of his time he was. I also really enjoy the philosophy of Friedrich Nitsche. I love his writing style and the subjects he write about. Finally, when it comes to poetry I am obsessed with T.S Eliot. Even though an abundance of readers say that "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" is their favorite poem by him, I have to have the same opinion. The way the poem flows almost flawlessly and more amazing, is the fact that he wrote that poem when he was only twenty (phenomenal). I also enjoy Sylvia Plath, William Carlos Williams, Akiane, Ezra Pound, W.S. Merwin, Dylan Thomas, and countless others.
I think I'm rambling on a bit too much so I'm going to wrap it up like a present. I just found this forum last night and I was too tired to fully browse through its entirety so here I am. I glad that there is a forum dedicated to literature and I can't wait to meet new people who have the same interests as I do. So feel free to message me anytime and say hello or anything you would like. Thanks for reading this and have a fantastic day!

    Smile Hi to everybody

I am new member in this network, I joined today and want to say Hi to everybody here.
I am from Egypt, I am interested in books of almost all sorts, but especially literature [eastern and western; in fact I don't feel there is any difference, good literature is good literature], also history, psychology, mythology and philosophy.
    Best wishes to all members.

    Love all,
    Trust a few,
    Do harm to none,

    Hello from Sir Chaucer

    Hi All...

Just briefly, my parents named me "Aleyn" after the character in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales!

It took me until my late 40's to find out any more than that but wow - Once I found Chaucer in the original english well, I was hooked by the language.

My other love is Science Fiction, not Fantasy, the hard core stuff from the likes of Edgar Rice Burroughs and E E Doc Smith.

Just a BTW, it would be nice to hear if anyone else has the first name "Aleyn", with that particular spelling!

    Regards, Aleyn AKA Sir Chaucer

PS, I'm at LE652QH, UK and more or less stuck to my computer chair with disability so, if anyone is just round the corner from me, drop me a line OK?

That is a very unusual name. Is it pronounced "Al lan" or "A lane"?

Hello everyone. I joined a couple of days ago and got stuck straight into the various forums, so realised I'd almost missed this opportunity of, well, saying 'Hi'. Having a lot of fun already. The variety of options and material seems vast. Could become a steady addiction.... See you all on the forums. And once again thank you to my good friend Kathy for the introduction to the site!
