She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love:
A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye
Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky

She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and oh
The difference to me .

To me, Lucy seems to be a shy, unassuming person who is neither famous or widely praised. People don't seem to notice her much, sort of like a violet that grows closely to the ground and gets overlooked. She isn't anything special in the eyes of the general world and her death is as unnoticed as her life seems to be. However, the narrator of the poem is saying that Lucy made a difference, that she mattered to the narrator.

Think of a person in your life that you love...they probably aren't famous or wildly beautiful or "special" in the eyes of the world, but that doesn't matter because they are special in YOUR eyes, they make a difference in your life. If they were gone, the world might not notice, but you surely would.
