Or is it someplace else that has hot water springs?

    Oh, I almost forgot...

    Welcome all newbies

As Kiwi Aunty has said, there are literally hundreds of hot water springs and spas around and most would have had a Maori village nearby, in the past, mainly for cooking. The only one nowadays where a village is preserved, is Whakarewarewa, in Rotorua.

Some of the hot springs do have mineral-enriched water which has actual therapeutic benefits, but several are also home to the amoeba which causes amoebic meningitis - a fatal disease.

Well, as long as you don't count down a redwood just to make one toothpick, it isn't too bad.

Wow! You sure do know a lot about hot springs The Atheist (that feels funny writing a name that begins with a "the" hehehe). I'm now feeling glad not to be a hot-springer myself (not being a major fan of fatal diseases).

Kia ora ki a koe hoki Niamh. Kei te pai rawa atu tou reo Maori!

    Hi Friends,
i'm soumyakans and i hail from a country and do a job very different from most of you. Software is my profession and literature is my passion. i take to books of any field - fiction, philosophy, sociology and Science. i particularly enjoy classic literature (Oscar Wilde, Thomas Hardy, Somerset Maugham and O.Henry are my most favourite authors). My next bext interest is theoretical Physics as i had graduated in Physics before entering the Software field. i'm trained in Indian classical dance and music and enjoy almost all forms of Music that i come across. Its nice to meet and know you all. Hope to interact more with you through the Literature framework.

    Hi everyone!

I'm a new member here (thought I've already post twice sorry... )
    writing from Milan, Italy.
I generally love reading but what I love the most is reading in English because it helps me in learning new words and keep the language alive and rich (or so I do hope!)
I've started reading in English with light books as Bridget Jones Diary, because I thought they were more at my level, but in the last two years I've moved on British History Books and English Literature Classics.
I'm currently reading Jane Eyre and I'm enjoying it very very much! The plot is so charming and the English of Charlotte Bronte is a pleasure to read.
Beside reading I also love animals (I have 4 cats ) and nature, when I have the possibility to leave Milan for a while I like to take long walks through woods or national parks.
I love drawing, sewing and go to the cinema
and doing the shopping of course!

I hope to find friends here to discuss about books and maybe history!
    thanks everyone to be here
