I think Anne Rice's Feast of all saints and cry to Heaven are brilliant. The Feast of all saints has to be her best though. I couldn't get in to Violin, but i did enjoy the vampire books. i only got as far as Armand.

I love the three books about The Mayfair Witches and am actually in the middle of re-reading the trilogy right now. I'd recommend them to anyone. "The Witching Hour" (followed by "Lasher" and "Taltos"), especially. I started reading the Vampire Chronicles many, many years ago, but didn't finish it out. I loved "Queen of the Damned", though. Excellent book. I was thinking of going back to read all of the Vampire books after I finish this trilogy since I've since read that some of my favorite characters from the witches trilogy make appearances in the later Vampire books.

Cry to Heaven was excellent. The Sleeping Beauty Erotica work was alright, and the first Vampire book was O.K., I was forced to put down Lestat though. I personally think she needs a much better editor, but other than that she is an alright novelist.
I was a big fan of the Vampire Chronicles while i was in high - school, well ..... a pretty long time ago. I've read the first 5 books. Memnoch was the last one i've read. I kind of gave up the vampire stories but at 16 Anne Rice's novels impressed me a great deal.
The Queen of the Damned - the movie was painful to watch, i hated it from the beginning. Interview with a vampire was much better, i loved what Neil Jordan (the director) did, the characters were great and so was the whole atmosphere ...

But, anyway, I loved the Vampire Chronicles. I have read all except Vittorio and Merrick. I read them in order, minus Vitorrio and Merrick, of course. I would love to talk to any one of you about the books.
As far as Ms. Rice's style, it is good but she does certain things that REALLY bother me. For instance her use of "waked", as in "Lestat WAKED Akasha" (I am paraphrasing). It is WOKE for the love of God! Lestat WOKE Akasha.
As far as the movies are concerned, the screenplay for Interview with the Vampire was writen by Anne Rice, so that is why it was more accurate. At the time, the studio had purchased the rights to Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned. For whatever reason, the studio never got around to making the last two movies. Then, when the realized that their contract was about to expire, they decided to mesh the two movies into one.
I am such a geek, I have named all of my harddrives, iPod, flash drive, etc after characters from the Vampire Chronicles.
I have not read any of her other stories, though.

I have read The Vampire Chronicles up to Memnoch the Devil. I have just finished the Mayfair Witches trilogy and want to start Blackwood Farm; however,I was also wondering if I need to read the rest of the Vampire Chronicles after Memnoch so I can understand what is going on with all of the vampires. For example, I've read the first chapter of Blackwood Farm, and Quinn talks about how he has broken Lestat's rules. Would I be familiar with these rules and the meaning of them if I were to read the previous stories??

I think you should read Merrick next, then Blackwood Farm. Merrick is up next for me, but I think the rules of which Quinn talks are in Merrick. Plus in Blackwood farm, they talk about Merrick dying.

i've read the Blackwood farm..and thought wow.. anne rice is pretty bad *** writer... ihavent read Queen of The Damned.. but i have seen the movie and my mom says the movie is pretty accurate to the book...is that true??

nah, the movie sucks. It tries to combine both first books and fails....miserably.

You're mom is the only person on the planet that feels that way. The movie changed a lot about the books. Plus it skipped most of it. If you were to read the book and then read the movie you would cry.
I used to be huge into the "Vampire Chronicles" - I own all of them in hardback *yikes!* but funny thing is, I haven't read them all. I like Interview with the Vampire alot and I love The Vampire Lestat and in my opinion Queen of the Damned is one of the best books out there, period, and Memnoch the Devil was brilliant ... but around Pandora I thought her writing started going down hill. I thought The Vampire Armand was absolutely awful, one of the worst books I've ever read, and Vittorio The Vampire felt like a waste of frickin' time - I only started reading it because it was next in the series and only finished it because I hate to leave a book unfinished.
So I've kind of stale mated myself. I just can't bring myself to pick up the next book in the series cause I'm like "wow, it'll probably just suck worse than the last, if that's even possible." I do own Taltos and Violin by her and I haven't read them and now I'm scared to try those out, too.
But she is an excellent writer, even I don't really like what she writes.
Ok. So I have just finished both Merrick and Vittorio. Both were Anne Riceish. They were not "amazing" and you did not learn much about the characters, but it was well written, minus a few grammatical errors.
I am now done with the Vampire Chronicles. Yay.
