Welcome ruth! Welcome pumpkin! Glad to have ya on board
I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.

I don't go anywhere where I will be sitting for long without a book!

Hello everyone. I was pointed in this direction by a very pushy bulletin at the top of every page that reminded me of my posting neglect. If only I had such a bulletin to follow me in the real world, reminding me to pay bills, take out the garbage, call my mother, and pay attention to boys...

Anyway, my name is Amanda. 'Anda is a nickname I earned a few years ago after my friends grew tired of coming up with qualifiers for the multitudes of Amandas that kept cropping up in the 90s (being 5'8", "Big Amanda" had to be avoided at all costs).

I am 25, and I have lived in 20 homes. Apparently I inherited my parents' wanderlust; most of my adult life has been devoted to working only hard enough to earn travel money and to meet future couch-surfing sponsors. I try to visit a new place in the United States and a new country abroad every year. So far I've been to Ireland, England, Italy, Israel, Spain, Wales, Colorado, California, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

I started college in 1999, studying Graphic Design. As a student I was successful. As a happy person, I was completely miserable. After two years I left, and in the four years that followed, I moved around in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island, working for Greenpeace and summer camps. Two years ago I returned to school as a Literature major. I graduate in May. I'm gagging for the cap and gown.

After graduation I'm quitting my job, packing up my house, and moving to Argentina to be an English teacher for a year. I need a break before I continue my education god-knows-where. There just hasn't been time to get through the Norton Anthologies, take the GREs, get my TEFL certification, ace the subject GREs, complete my 16 credits, and get through my 40-hour work week, while maintaining my social life and my travel habit.

But the future awaits. And it looks bright from here.

Well, first off, welcome to all the newcomers!

I just realized something...I never properly introduced myself here. Well, you know what they say, "Better late than never." Here goes...

Umm...Hi. My name...My...Umm...Is Andy Khamsa. I'm...I'm 19 years old. I'll...I'll be turning 20 this year on Vetarans Day. That's the...Um...11th of November...I think.

    I...I like...Umm...Food. And...Umm...Other...Stuff-like...Thingy...

    Well...Um...Yeah...I think I'll quit while I'm ahead...

Anyway, I...I really like this place...

"The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of the people and then they take themselves out of the slums. Christ changes men, who then changes their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature." ~ Ezra Taft Benson

    Hi there.

Alan Charman of Auckland here. Veteran forum user and delighted to find this forum, I'm sure to be a frequent visitor.

I write for both business and pleasure and am an absolute bibliophile.

Now I have my hat and coat on (Avatar and sig line!), I'm off to take part in most of the Orwell threads!
Go to work, get married, have some kids, pay your taxes, pay your bills, watch your tv, follow fashion, act normal, obey the law and repeat after me: "I am free."
