    Dracula's Past...

Obviously lots of ways that title could go, but a quick question...

It's been a few years since I read the book, but I was discussing it with some friends and something came up-- in the book, does Dracula have a wife or love interest prior to becoming a vampire that is mentioned that then leads to some of his later actions?

Actually, that is the intro of Copolla's movie, which is not part of the book, since the book is everything but a love story.
