Thank you, Janine. That is very nice of you. Yes, if you come across something floral that would be lovely.

Quite some time ago, I had made an avatar by cropping this picture. You probably recognize it, she is Juliet as painted by my favorite artist, J.W. Waterhouse (in case anybody isn't familiar with the painting)

I was thinking about going back to Juliet for a bit, but can never make my mind up.

A little bit of Gertrude Stein for all of you.
What is the use of a violent kind of delightfulness if there is no pleasure in not getting tired of it.

The Sword in the stone, which, BTW, was NOT Excaliber, artists pictures notwithstanding. Arthur received Excalibur from The Lady of the Lake, and returned it to her after the final battle.

I changed my avatar --- it's a part of a painting of the lady of shalott.

Notice the spelling of shalott. It has two t's -- not one. I misspelled it when I set up my account originally.

Now, I am very embarrased about this, especially since this was my favorite poem from the time that I was a student and actually enrolled in literature classes. So you see, I should know how to spell Shalott. My username is Shalot instead of Shalott and that irritates me. Maybe I should set up a new account. I don't know.

Anyway, I've come up with an excuse for why I mispelled Shalott. It's because I'm from the U.S.A. Now, you can take that however you want, but it's a known fact that here in a America, we sometimes alter words and their spellings.

Take the word light for example. If you order a low-fat sandwich, the spelling on the menu might say lite. All that means is that the sandwich is low in fat and carbs and calories, and a clever way to convey that meaning is to reduce the number of letters in the word light. The word has fewer letters and the consumer is getting fewer calores.

In the same way, we add letters to a word. Take also the word old. If you own a bookstore, a clever name for the bookstore might be Ye Olde Bookstore. Olde looks like a word from Old English, and if you're buying a book from the Ye Olde Bookstore, as opposed The Old Bookstore, you think you're getting something special. But if you go shopping at the old bookstore, you're getting used books that smell like someone's old cigarettes.

So there you have it --- there's my new avatar and my new excuse.

    Thanks so much.

That was awesome! I think I've finally met my match in the rationalization department.

That is one of my favorite paintings. Ye Olde Artists certainly knew what they were up to...

I lucked on to this avatar when I was blindly typing stuff into a search engine ( I was very bored) But I love it! And I also like the idea that when you all read my posts you're imagining that I look like Cate Blanchet
