Question Need Help Persuasive Techniques For English Essay

    Hello everyone.

My name is Justice and I am 16 years old. I apologize for my first post being a request, but I really do need some assistance with this pursuasive essay that I am writing.

I am in English III, and this project is worth 20% of my grade. My essay is a pursuasive essay against the topic of Grade Inflation. I am finding my topic extremely difficult, which is almost rare for me. I can only use database sources, such as EbscoHost and Issues & Controversies for information. I have found the necessary number of sources (10) for this project, but they are very repetitive. The information that I found in my sources give me great difficulty to rephrase.

I have to use four (4) persuasive techniques, which I don't know what that even is, in my paper. I would like some assistance with it. I would like some of you to proofread it and help me word it correctly along with providing me some assistance and advice when writing it.

If you guys could help me, I would appreciate it a lot!
Thanks. Please reply...believe it or not, this paper is due within 48 hours.

    Post Persuasive techniques

I assume that persuasive techniques are particular methods a writer will use inorder to convince the reader that the thesis or argument or position is correct.

I really do not know if your teacher has specific techniques in mind. There are so many different ways of persuading readers. You can write in an emotional way and try to persuade a reader by manipulating their feelings. You can persuade readers by explaining that your position is the moral one, the right one, the good one and that other positions or arguments are not moral, are bad or even possibly dangerous. You can persuade people that your position is right by showing how other important people who are respected by the reader also agree with your ideas.

There are dozens and dozens of different ways. You need to find out if your teacher means something more specific.

    good luck

It is good that something like that is being assigned in high school. If you presented the assignment correctly, then I think that the teacher wants to see you use four different persuasive strategies, techniques, or styles in the essay.
This page http://rhetoric.byu.edu/General%20Rh...Strategies.htm gives the basics of rhetorical strategy; and this one gives some more and some items about logic.

You might also search on google for "rhetorical style" to get some more information.

Thank you for your kind responses.
I always have trouble writing papers that I feel pressured upon, and I feel that I will have great difficulty with this paper.

As I stated before, the information that I have been gathering seems to be repetitive...really majority of the sources just claim that grade inflation obstructs students from obtaining a quality education, and that most-likely faculty is to blame.

I have taken the time to write down the pursuasive techniques that my teacher recommended in class today, in which I need to use four (4) out of the below list:
    • alliteration
    • allusions
    • connotations
    • denotations
    • hyperbole
    • imagery
    • metaphors
    • parallelism
    • personification
    • rhetorical questions
    • similes

I cannot decide how to implement some of these pursuasive techniques into my essay. My teacher did declare that I have to use four (4) different ones from that list above.

He made it more complicated, and actually confused me, by saying that the assignment was not for us to write a paper, but assemble information and connect the different sources of information. It confused me because it makes me think that the whole paper is supposed to be paraphrased, in which I know it is not supposed to be...I know I am going to have some trouble drawing connections between the sources and using the pursuasive techniques.

If any of you can help me, I would be very thankful. I appreciate the responses so far; thank you for your time guys!

I am also available on AIM, if any of you want to communicate directly with me and hopefully help me. Just view my forum profile here to see what my screename is.

    Thanks.

So right intillegently to persuade people that grade inflation is bad but just add in some of those techniques - alliteration eg. It's a saddening statistic that blah blah blah or parallelism getting grades these days is simply like a infant jumping through hoops or whatever...

and no...equally fair is not correct.

I do not know the rest of the sentence....but "equally just" is a possible substitute
