My ears aren't pierced. They never have been. I might like to wear earrings to formal award ceremonies (When I become a world famous writer ) But I'm in no hurry to get them done. Surely having someone stick a needle through your ears hurts, doesn't it? And, how do you know the needle is clean? They may say it is, but how do you really know?

Yes it does hurt. If you get it done in a salon (which is always the best choice) they have a "gun" (for lack of a better word) which they load up with an individually wrapped earring stud. They line this up to your earlobe and shoot it through. Sounds fun, doesn't it? A person can walk into a beauty supply store like Sally Beauty and purchase one, but for individual use it seems a waste of money.

I got mine pierced at 16 and then a second set of holes when I was in my late 20's. The woman in the salon got the stud stuck half way through in my left ear....for 20 minutes. When they finally got it out they had to re-pierce it from the back instead of the front, take the stud out and put it so it faced front to back.

I actually joined a friend of mine when he went to get his ear pierced with one of those "guns" at a Claire's. He was worried it was hurt, but he sat down, they punched it, he asked if it was over, they said yes, and he said "Oh, I was such a baby."

It didn't hurt to pierce, but the ear did get sore and he had to keep the earring in and keep spinning it so the hole wouldn't heal with the earring in it...and he said that could give a dull pain sometimes...

I'm getting mixed responses here. I suppose it all depends on a person's pain threshold. Perhaps an exmple that everyone can refer to.

Is it anything like getting a blood test or injection?
Because, injections I don't mind. I'm not keen on them, but they don't really hrt much

I think you might also want to think about where the piercing is. If it's in the lobe, it won't hurt us much as higher on the ear where the cartilage (sp?) is. Try taking your fingernails and pinching your earlobe if that is where you are thinking of getting pierced, and see how it feels.

I have a couple of tattoos. The tatooing itself (which is a needle puncturing your skin again and again) felt like hard little fingernail pinches...but again with my experience the healing process was what hurt more. It was so SORE!

Earring are very pretty and complimenting though, if you are into looking pretty, lol...so I think it'd be well worth it for you to get piercings if you are interested in it

ear piercing doesn't hurt. If it is just normal ear piercing that is - I got mine when I was a kid and I didn't even notice it.

Nice to see you back Optimistic dear. Sick or busy?

I guess my second time around hurt so much because of them getting the stud stuck in my ear. That is what I remember the most, also because I still have trouble with it. If you don't mind injections then ear piercing probably would not bother you too much.

    Hi opti, feeling better?

    yeah really.

I read an article in some magazine (I'm thinking Ladies Home Journal or Glamour even) and there was an article about birth control pills. With traditional pills you have 3 weeks of the "real pills" and 1 week of placebo pills and the week when you take the "placebo pills" (I use quotes because I don't know if I'm using the correct term there) is the week that you get your period. But if you get a prescription for pills that have 4 weeks of the "real pills" then you don't have to have a period at all and it's healthy (at least according to the article I read). That would be nice.
