Hey everyone! Here's a brief intro:
    Name: Christina
Age: 25 ^_^;; Just had my birthday last week!
Books: I'm in a newly formed book club (we're reading the Samurai's Garden). I love mysteries, thrillers, fastasy, vampires, books that make you weep, historical, sociological....anything, I suppose. Also a Marx fan
Job: I work for the state for the Office of Women's Health
School: Graduated from UC Davis with a degree in sociology, minor in music.
Other: I'm an avid book reader and I love hearing about great reads, talking about books I love (and hate!), and since my bf doesn't like books, I have to share my passion with others.

    See you guys around!

    Kathita: Welcome!
pingu: that's too bad about your teacher. maybe you can go to her class early in the morning and ask for some pointers? maybe have a different teacher proof your essay/ask for recommendations? good luck!

    Greetings.

I consider this a great distinction that you allow such an indigent, as myself, into the bowels of a knowledged society.

    Hello!
Just stopping by to introduce myself as suggested.
So, a little bit about myself:
My book friends say I'm a classic lit nerd who doesn't appreciate 'modern fiction' (modern being anytime after 1960, so I guess that's post modern). It's not true, though, because I do appreciate modern fiction, I just feel like there are SO many excellent books that I need to read before I get to the modern stuff. And I have to admit that I really enjoy the agonizing process of trying to comprehend a difficult or obscure passage and I LOVE footnotes. Still, in the past year I have made a definite effort to read more modern stuff, and I have succeeded...sort of.
Book I'm always reading: Don Quixote by Cervantes (various translations)
Book I'm starting: One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch by Solzhenitsyn (translator: ...I've got to look...)
Book I just finished: Middlesex by Eugenides
Book I'm in the middle of but probably will never get back to (though I can hope): Swann's Way by Proust, Anna Karinina by Tolstoy
Books I'm in the middle of but will never finish: anything by Dostoevsky who I try every year to read and never succeed, Wicked by Maguire
Authors I'm not old enough for (i.e. can't appreciate yet): Dickens, Austen.
Favorite books (in no particular order): Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace (hooray for footnotes!), Middlemarch by Eliot, Don Quixote by Cervantes, The Master and Margarita by Bulgakov, Heart of a Dog by Bulgakov, Sentimental Education by Flaubert, The Sin of Father Mouret by Zola, and many, MANY MORE!

Right now, I'm in a self-imposed exile from my real life (i.e. living in a place I really don't enjoy so that I can live rent-free and save money to rejoin my life) after a thoroughly enjoyable 4 month extended vacation from working in theatre. I'm thrilled to find this forum so I can try to keep my brain active! I hope that I will be able to contribute to what seems like a lively community.

PS I tend to use very long, disjointed sentences. I hope that won't be too annoying!

I like ancient Egypt, poetry, gothic literature, photo manipulation, philosophy, religious matter, and paranormal research... I live in the south east asia; Malaysia. Introduction: I'm an artist and a mom who homeschools because she gets to learn the history she hated when she was young. I'm currently on a poetry kick (Dante, Keats, Adrienne Rich, Donald Hall) but also am reading a lot of Jung and associated writers (Hollis, Hillman). Am trying to make time for Arthur Miller, Proust, and Shaw. I'm a dancer (modern), writer, painter (oils) and video artist.
