    Interview with sub part 1

    subterranean
    Introductory questions

    1. How are you today?
I’m not really well at the moment. I have a slight fever and bad cough, probably because of work and too much night wind

    2. What is your (user) name?
    Subterranean

    3. How did you decide on your username?
The name subterranean is taken from a song title, “Subterranean Homesick Alien”. It is one of my all time favorite songs.

    4. What does your user name mean?
According to http://www.dictionary.com, subterranean can be defined as:

    –adjective Also, sub‧ter‧ra‧ne‧ous.
    1. existing, situated, or operating below the surface of the earth; underground.
    2. existing or operating out of sight or secretly; hidden or secret.
    –noun
    3. a person or thing that is subterranean.
    4. a subterrane.

But for me, it’s nothing but one of the most interesting English words I’ve ever read and it reminds me of a good song also!

    5. Why did you initially join the lit-net?
The answer to this question is probably the most typical one you ever received . I was searching for Maupassant online short stories. At that time (December 2003), I was a new fan of him. So I dig the internet to read his online stories and I bumped in to Online Literature Network and I noticed there’s a forum in this website. I didn’t join the forum until several visits because from reading the posts, I see that the forum got bright, well read, and hilarious members and I didn’t think that I would ever managed to catch up with them.
That thread, “Do you hate me?” was one of the earliest threads that grabbed my attention.

    6. What would you say is the best aspect of the forum?
The members, obviously! They’re guilty for all the madness and fun happening around here . They should have known that this foruming thing could lead to addiction.

    7. Why do you think people on the forum often think you are a guy?
Suppose you should ask this question to them . Well, I’m not sure. Probably because of the user name, my chosen avatars, or perhaps my posts. I mean it is probably easier to identify a member as female if the person’s user id is miss tenderness or kathycf (hi miss T, hi kathy).
I never had the intention to be mistaken as a guy though

    8. How do you feel about smilies? (Suggested by Nightshade)
I feel great about them. They make us more “understandable”

    9. As one of the longest standing member, how have you seen lit net change over time? (Suggested by Virgil)
When I first joined the forum (December 2003), we didn’t have many active members around. There were only few of us and it was really cool when some of us happened to be online at the same time. I remembered one of Koa’s posts where she expressed her surprise because there was no single new post made in the forum, even though she had not check out the forum for several days. So things were slow in the old days. But it was cool and fun. Now the forum keeps getting better; we got many cool active members, great/silly/funny/cool threads, some of us have “embarrassing” posts count (including me) which, I presume, a sign that we’re enjoying the forum that much. And we see new members (from all over the continents) joined and stick around as they already becoming addicted to the forum .

I do miss some of them (fayefaye, kik, isagel, AP, and fool) and wish they will post again. However, what matters most is that the forum remains as a fine e-source for literature enthusiasts around the globe, and we should thank ourselves for that.

    10. Why completly? (suggested by nightshade)
I made this spelling mistake, completely, in some of my posts. At certain point, I realized that I made spelling mistake, but I kept writing like that anyway. No one gave any comment about it; not sure is it because they didn’t notice the mistake or because they know that I’m not an English native speaker, hence they excuse me for making that error . Then ShoutGrace, in a very nice way, commented about that misspelled word. I was quite impressed that he brought it up to my face. We made fun out of it and the signature was part of the joke

    11. Nightshade would like to know why on earth you keep coming back? Are we really that interesting?
I log in mostly from my office, during working hours. That’s, in general, from 08.00 to 17.00, Monday to Friday. Doing office work can be a real pain sometime and reading the posts in the forum is one of the best ways to get rid of that pain. I can stay on and leave it just like that when I actually not in my desk.
And yea…you guys are that interesting (laugh). You know that already.

    Personal Questions

    12. How old are you ?
    I’m 25

    13. How would you describe yourself, your personality?
I’m a curious and impulsive person, with obsessions that don’t really correlate with my intellectual capacity

    14. What do you do in RL? Student, work?
I work as a senior client coordinator in a logistics company. I also take distance learning course majoring in English for Translation.

    15. Could you tell us a little more about what you do?

To be very simple, my job is to make sure that you can purchase your summer/winter/Christmas clothes at your nearest department store at the moment you need them. I’m not working for that store, but I work for a company which works for that store.

    16. Who is the man in the signature? (suggested by Nightshade)
Thom Yorke, one of the few most original musicians of the 21st century.

    17. Can you tell us more about "caffeinated psychopathic ol' cats" and of what significance they are to you? (Suggested by RJbibliophil)
They are only significant because they are caffeinated. I don’t really care whether it is a cat, dog, crocs, whatever… The word “caffeinated” is what really matters!

    18. Would you to tell us a bit about your various hobbies?
I don’t really have various hobbies. My span of interests only covers those usual stuffs like books, music, and movies. I do sometime take pictures, esp. when I travel. But that’s not really a hobby as it’s just a way to keep mementos on the interesting things I saw.

    19. Do you like sports, if so do you play sports yourself?
I’m not a sport person, but I can confirm that I jog every Saturday from 05.30 to 07.00. If I’m not in my running shoes, I most likely be swimming, I usually swim from 07’00 to 10.00. For the sake of sport literacy, I sometimes watch the Premiere League, esp. when Liverpool plays. No, I’m not a fan of LFC. On the contrary, I enjoy it very much when the Liverpool loose and take the shame (smile). There’s personal reason behind this which, unfortunately, I can not share with you guys

    20. Do you like to travel?
Yes, very much. I have to say that I haven’t yet got the opportunities to discover more. I have high admiration to world travelers.

    21. Which countries have you visited? And which ones would you really like to visit someday?
So far, I have only been all over South East Asia, for work and personal travel. Bangkok is my personal favorite; this is my 4th visit here (I’m currently in Bangkok until the end of October). I’m hoping for a future opportunity to visit countries in Europe. But if Europe is too far, I would be really happy to journey all over Asia.

    22. Could you tell us something about the countries you have visited? Like the culture, environment, etc.
South East Asian (SEA) countries are very diverse. For example, gay relationship is accepted openly in Thailand but not (yet) in other SEA countries. You would hardly able to find bars, clubs, or pubs open after 11 PM in Hanoi, while in other SEA countries, you probably just start jamming around that time. You probably won’t find many spicy cuisines in Manila as the Philippines don’t really eat spicy stuffs. But if you’re in Jakarta or Bangkok, spicy foods must be there in your dining list. Countries in SEA are also diverse when it comes to economic conditions and society welfare. There are, of course, some things that bound us together like the similar Asian look we share. I got mistaken many times as a Thai, a Vietnamese, or as a Pinay (Philippine female). I highly recommend SEA to be included in your travel list. And one more thing, SEA is a shopping paradise!

    23. What about your own country? What do you like about where you live?
We got more than 13 thousands islands (big and small), hundreds of languages and dialects, long list of great cuisines, traditional dances, and numerous great places to visit. Indonesia beaches are Australians and Zealanders favorite spots to surf. Yes, we do have issues on environment, corruption, terrorism, security, unemployment, etc. and we often feel that our situation is a hopeless case because of these unresolved problems. But I personally believe there’s always hope to make things better.

    24. Do you have a personal hero, or someone you look up to?
No. I just have several personal idols. I don’t look up to them; I just like them more.
    25. Now, for all the singles of the Lit-net, marital status?
Single and I think I am available

    Interview with sub part II

    Favorites

We can’t have an interview on a literature site without asking the obvious questions,

    26. So who is your favorite author?
I have to say that I give more attention to Heller, Hesse, Hardy, and Lewis.

    27. What’s your favorite kind of literature?
I read a lot of fiction. I like short story and novels. Recently, I’m trying to extend my reading on plays too. And I probably should balance my portion of non-fiction real soon. I hardly read non-fiction (other than weekend newspaper) since I graduated 3 years ago.

    27. And your favorite book?
Some of my most favorites are Catch-22, Sophie’s World, Pilgrims Regress and Siddhartha. But then like many others, I also have those books which I categorized as my favorites, like Jude the Obscure, Sophie’s World, and 1984. The list is a dynamic one, of course.

    28. What kind of music do you enjoy?
I have personal interest in British punk and progressive rock.

    29. Which are your favorite bands/singers/composers/etc.?
Radiohead is one of my all time favorites, along with The Who, and Pink Floyd. I also very much enjoy R.E.M, The Clash, and Led Zeppelin. I also have a long list of “bands/singer that I enjoy”, which includes Travis, The Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, and Lightning Seeds.

    30. Tell us something about your favorite movie.
We’re the all singing all dancing craps of the world (Fight Club).

It's a great thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself (American Beauty).

    31. Your favorite game in the Games sub-forum?
The ones that don’t make me think too hard when replying to them. I’m pretty slow .

    32. Amazons or Dastardly Stans?
I can not choose because I don’t really understand what the conflict is all about. Please excuse me for my lack of attentiveness.

    33. Any other favorites we should know about?
Favorite members in the forum. But I suppose I’ll keep them for my self as I don’t want to spark any jealousy around here . Just kidding!

And now, the most important questions of them all

    35. What’s your favorite smilie?

The waving lad with a smile in his face. He’s the cutest of all

    36. How do you like your turnips?
    Hmm…I’m not in to turnips.

    Thank you for the interview
You’ are most welcome, and don’t bother, the tea and pie are on me.

    Great Interview!

I have never seen the Fight Club movies but I have heard a lot about them.

I saw it at the movies, and I was 16 at the time, that's what's so nice about the Netherlands, they don't make such a fuss about young people seeing films like this. Although the min age was 16. (lucky me )

Up in Canada we're fairly lax about it too, and movies very rarely get an 18+ rating. Most movies receiving R ratings in the states are PA up here (Parental Accompaniement) which I think is 16+ if your alone.
