SCFI Question.

Okay.....I'm yearning to re-read a SCFI book but I CAN NOT remember the author or the name of it. Can anybody remember the name of the book about...........(drum roll)...... some sort of alien take over where a character, (book's entirely first person), spends a significant part of the storey in a glass dome with other trapped humans as prisoners of the alien race. The character has to deal with the inevitable scummy gang that is going to appear in an over crowded concentration camp that is essentially uncontrolled by any guards.
