"Dear night-lights that protect my sleeping children, burn clear & steadfast tonight!" was Mrs. Darling's parting statement before she left the nursery for her dinner out with her husband. This line is from the original 1904 play, which is the basic script for most live stage productions, including the musical versions. Barrie adapted his play into a novel in 1911, omitting some of the famous recognizable quotes. The 1911 book version is the basis for most of the movie versions of "Peter Pan." But the 1904 play version is still available & is worth hunting down or ordering from your local bookstore or on-line.

I know it was in the original play but are we sure it was not in the book?
