The Party is an obvious compilation of the worst traits of the totalatarian goverments of Orwell's time. The goverments of Soviet Russia, China and the German Nazi party. The Big Brother ideal in the book is stolen from the Russian goverment, the revolution is stolen from the chinese and the thought police is similar to the nazi SS police. The Party oppresses the people and lies to them as did the totalatarian goverments of Orwell's time. I believe Orwell wrote this book as a warning of what the world might be like in the future if the totalatarian goverments of his time were not met with opposition.
