Rumi was the great Persian poet and Sufi mystic of the 13th century. Here's one of his masterpieces:
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you
Don’t go back to sleep!
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep!
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch,
The door is round and open
Don’t go back to sleep!
The poem explores the connection between the profane and the sacred. It can be seen as describing awakening and facing the day (which, even in the profane world is filled with excitement and mystery). Or it can be read as suggesting a spiritual awakening. The "two worlds" might be the home and the great outdoors. Or they might be the mundane and the mystical. The advice is the same in either case. "Don't go back to sleep." Listen to the breeze, and learn its secrets.
