I walked through the crowd—
heads down, screens up, hustlers,
dogs yanking leashes,
kids screaming for sugar.
everybody clawing for something.
money, sex, status,
a little mercy,
a little edge.
I had nothing to want.
kept moving.
left, right—
light as smoke.
that’s the trick—
drop the rope,
and the world quits pulling.
so I walked.
let the phones glow,
the faces twitch,
the desperate scroll for meaning—
I wanted none of it.
just the street,
and my two feet
both paid for in full.
