I was on another website the other day when some gal wrote that she had been named for Scarlett O'Hara. Over the years people have pointed the bad and good sides of the character to her. She's heard everything there is to know about Scarlett O ~ it's amazing how many points of view there are about her.

Ya know, I don’t think I realized it until I was just surfing around on the web, but Vivien Leigh played Blanche DuBois as well as Scarlett O’Hara. Any thoughts on Streetcar?

    Streetcar

I am a member of IMDb and rated it a 9:

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044081/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Marlon Brando stole the show. Great acting and atmospheric scenery.

After reading GWTH via audio book and then re-reading my ancient volume of the book, I decided to donate it to a Little Free Library at a nearby church. The book is not an original issue so that it does not have much value and the binding is rather decrepit. I hope someone will enjoy it soon.

A good idea, Poppins. It´s a good thing when there are book recycling places. I had to give away about 800 books, no idea what happened to them.

Very generous of you to do so. Over my many years I've donated over 2,000 books to churches such as St Mary's in Brooklyn, Berkeley-Carroll School, and Salvation Army. Many were really good books and I hope their new owners found them to be fun and illuminating. I bought that volume of GWTW over 50 years ago and I hope that many will enjoy it over at least the next 50 years.

How I wish that we had today used book stores like those we had in Book Row (Greenwich Village, NYC), and down town Brooklyn, Montague Street). I could buy a full grocery bags worth of excellent books for only one dollar back in the day. This is how I accumulated so many books over the years. I still have a couple of dozen books which I plan on re-reading and will eventually give them away to Little Free Library.

danik I don't know if brazil has such programs, but poppin you might enjoy an additional place I have donated books to. I also do curbside libraries, actual libraries, and thrift stores, but other options include charities that send books to prison inmates.

I gave them away out of necessity, because I won´t be able to take them with me when I move from this apartment, Poppins. There were many good books among them, I hope they have found good readers.

In near my older address there used to be several good used book stores. Sometimes one could swap books for different ones. All these stores are disappearing. Brazil was never a country of readers and now it's less than it was before.

Good post. I had not been aware of this. Having been a law school graduate, I had many books on law and would have shared them with these folks, esp with NYC Books Through Bars as NY is my original home town. As of now, I only have about 25 books or so having given away so many in the past. I am not likely to replace them but -- you never know.

the books I send to the inmate charities are ones I get expressly for that purpose, so its a sort of double bonus---the inmates get books and the thrift stores/library sales I get them from get some dollars too. my local library manager actually sometimes just gives me books because she knows what im doing with them, and it also clears up some shelf space.

Mentioning "Streetcar Named Desire", it occured to me that from "Gonne with the Wind" main acress, Vivien Leigh, is an undoubdfully beautiful woman, but the same film made in 1995 with Alec Baldwin and Jessica Lange, I must say that she is much better actress. If it was possible to make a film with Brando and Lange, it would be a great remake or adaptation (I am not sure which expression to use. )
