In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, we are introduced to three party slogans: "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is Strength". At first glance these may just appear to be 3 paradoxical, non-sense statements but I believe that these have very clear meanings to them if we look a little closer. The first slogan, "War is Peace", could be interpreted to show how war is used to create a sense of unity across a nation. The next slogan "Freedom is Slavery" can be a representation of how freedom itself is a tremendous burden, not only to establish but to uphold. The final slogan, "Ignorance is Strength", may be an interpretation of what the people don't know can't hurt them.
