Help identifying poem: Possible Ogden Nash or other humorist's work..

    Hi All..

I've been thinking of a humorous poem I read many many years ago where the poet was lamenting the fact that he had difficulties spelling "easy" names like Eliot.. would there be an extra "l" such as Elliot.. or an extra "t" as in Elliott. The poet indicated he had no issues with harder names like (what I recall) complicated German surnames and went on to list a bunch...

It sounds like Nash to me, but I recently went through all the volumes I had of his and could not find this particular poem.. though that certainly doesn't mean it's not his. Could be Auden as well, but I couldn't find anything there either.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? It's driving me crazy.

    Thanks.

Thee are not really any "easy" names, people spell them in different ways, I think probably in all languages. As for a humorous poem it doesn't ring any bells for me, you might like to contact Biggus, who often has humorous poems. Look him up, he come on line at frequent intervals here on LitNet.

    Thanks for the editorial Dreamwoven!

I finally have the answer BTW. Does anyone care to guess?

I get the sense that most people who visit these forums have no idea what the core literature of the world is. Is that correct?

    A. E. Housman? T.S Eliot? I have no idea.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'core literature of the world'.
