During Julia and Winstons first "relationship" in the woods, Julia tells Winston that she has had this same experience with many other men. This suggests the questions, is Winston going to turn out just like another one of those guys? Did she love all those other men, and does she actually love Winston? Or is this all just an act out of rebellion, and in fact she does not even like having intercourse with random men? I also wonder what happened to all the other Note that I am only to page 110 right now.

As much as Julia was able to love, I think she loved Winston after a time. The others were, in my opinion, were just acts of rebellion.

I don't believe that Winston and Julia's relationship is really love. Winston likes the fact that Julia has been with many guys before him because it goes against the party. I think that their only intention in being with one another is that they want to rebel against the party. They might be 'in love' with the fact that they both share the interest in getting rid of Big Brother.

I do not think that this question of Winston turning out like the other men Julia has been with was ever suggested. Julia does not really love Winston, per say, as much as she almost, needs to be with him, in order to help to stop what Big Brother is doing, to rebel against the party.

I think that Julia and Winston are together, because they needed to be together, because of their common interests against the party. These two are brought together through hatred against the party, and they commit these sexual acts, as ways of proving to the party that, they are not going to lose their humanity, that they are going to remain human.

Big Brother is trying to get rid of the ability to have feelings towards others, trying to rid his country of any possible way of remaining human. He does this by limiting who you can marry, in turn, you not being able to have sexual relations with another out of love, but only out of the need for children, for the party.(This is a reason for Julia and Winston's relationship.) Also, Artisem will eventually be put into play for everyone, eliminating the need for sex at all within the party members. Big Brother is planning on making his country into not a country of people, but one of an army. Everyone identical. Speaking without emotion, and living without feeling.

I believe that this is an act of rebellion. undercover rebellion. Winston is longing to find someone who believes Big Brother is evil. Winston believes Julia agrees with his ideas of Big Brother, but she only rebels against the little things. Everything she knows is made up by the Inner Party. I don't believe Winston was special to her, and I dont think she really loves him.

It can depend on your interpretation of what "love" is.

On the other hand, there's no doubt in my mind that Orwell's intent that Julia is/was in love with Winston.

I believe Winston and Julia's relationship is not love. It is a political act, a rebellion against the government. The characters in this book do not truly know what love is. In there own way i believe there relationship may have developed into feelings but never truly love. They are part a society that is brainwashed, completely stripped of emotion.

I believe that Julia thinks she truly loves Winston but I don't think that she does. I think Winston and Julia didn't make a good connection on an emotional level. When it comes down to it I don't think that they really care for each other as most people in love do. When Winston was telling Julia about the last time that he saw his mother and sister, she couldn't stay awake. If she really cared and loved him she would be upset about how he was feeling. Also, Julia was often bored with the things that Winston would say or found interesting. She didn't really care about his thoughts on certain topics or how important those topics were to him. I don't believe that Julia knows what love feels like because she has never been in love. She can only imagine how it feels and she probably thinks that what she has with Winston is love.

I personally believe Julia's relations with the other men was out of an act of rebellion. Originally her intentions with Winston were purely rebellious, but over time I feel she has truly fallen in love with him.
