Lightbulb August Strindberg - Miss Julie

    I'm new here!

Has anyone read Miss Julie by August Strindberg or have some knowledge on the author?

I am aware of his mysogynistic views, but was wondering if he was also against the shifting statuses of people during the period in which it was written. Was he saddened by the upheaval of this "new" nobility (represented through Jean)?

I always found Strindberg intense and his plays dark. I liked him when I read him but it is years since I read him and decades since I saw a performance. I cannot answer your question but I feel that he wanted his women to be both saints and whores simultaneously. A difficult demand to find fulfilled in anyone. I also feel that his plays came from his own deep insecurities but that his Nordic background had some part to play. Other than these generalities I cannot help but there are others here who might Give more exact answers. I should re-read him I guess
