    The classics never die ...

Hi, I'm John ... Cat lover, football fan (twenty-plus year Buffalo Bills season ticket holder, been to two Super Bowls and three Conference Championship Games), humble New York State employee. My literary enjoyement very often comes from going back and either discovering or rediscovering the classics. The classics never die. I imagine if one were stuck on an island with only one book, any of the true classics would do ... because the great ones never get old. Example: I love the way you can pick up The Sun Also Rises a year after you've read it for the ninth time, and still get fantastically lost in it. I'm single, have a girlfriend right now, and live with my two cats, Frodo and Napoleon. By the way, Frodo wants you to know that he had his name long before those movies popularized J. R. R.'s writings ... Frodo says that he's thirteen years old and offers that as proof. (What's that? OK...) He also says, "feed me tuna." Napoleon is busy destroying my electronic cables and favorite sweaters, but only the expensive ones that fit well. . Nice meeting you all!

Nice intro, John. I'm always glad to see a new member closer to my age. Sometimes I feel like Old Man River around here.

I love cats, too. Can't help smiling when I see one, even on TV. Had more than one pet cat in my life, but unfortunately, I now live in a no-pets apartment building. I miss the mysterious feline presence in my home.

My own brain is to me the most unaccountable of machinery --always buzzing, humming, soaring, roaring, diving, and then buried in mud. And why? What's this passion for?
