memoires

those are dainty morsels indeed. they excude the cool atmosphere of manor house libraries. You can smell the cigar smoke, hear leather bound volumes creek gently under your touch.................... and then you find yourself enshrouded with thick london fog under a gas lamp and you hope the lamp you see through the window pain has been lit for you and indeed you are a most welcome guest...........
So cosy the stories are, compared to the outside word though they tell us about human crimes and blunders
So restful, so vivid, so tactile - they taste of Victorian tea cakes and cucumber sandwiches, they're velvety to touch, of deep brown hue with gold and crimson spots gleeming discreetly in the darkness.......

    I believe the quote . . .
'"Cut out the poetry Watson," said Holmes severly' -The Retired Colourman.
Would come in quite handy here!!!

I'm only kidding! I know the feeling and I always imagine myself watching the great case evolve in from the eyes of Watson as he is the one writing (most of) the stories!

And "exude." And "gleaming." And "creak." But we're not here to nitpick, are we?

In this genre my favorite is "Memoirs of an Amnesiac" by Oscar Levant. Funny, no?
