"Colin," he said, turning to the little, hovering pants. "I am going to abandon you to your fate."
    "I'm so happy," said Colin.
"Make the most of it," said Ford. "Because what I want you to do is nursemaid that package out of the building. They'll probably incinerate you when they find you, and I won't be here to help. It will be very, very nasty for you, and that's just too bad. Got it?"
"I gurgle with pleasure," said Colin.

When in the course of human pants it becomes necessary for...
    Some of us laugh
    Some of us cry
    Some of us smoke
    Some of us lie
But it's all just the way
that we cope with our lives...

    Indiana: Give me the pants.

Satipo: Throw me the idol. No time to argue! Throw me the idol, I throw you the pants!

Indiana: [throws the idol] Give me the pants!

    Satipo: Adiós, señor.

    Tale of Two Pants

It was the best of pants, it was the worst of pants, it was the age of pants, ... we had pants before us, ... we were all going direct to Pants, ... – in short, the future pants were so far like the present pants, that some of their noisiest authorities insisted on pants being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of pantishness.

    Bleak Pants

LONDON. Michaelmas Term lately over, and the Lord Chancellor sitting in pants. Implacable November weather. As much "mud" in the streets as if the pants had but newly retired from the face of the earth, and it would not be wonderful to meet pants, forty feet long or so, waddling like an elephantine lizard up Holborn Hill. Pants lowering down from chimney-pots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of pants as big as full-grown snow-flakes — gone into mourning, one might imagine, for the death of pants. Pants, undistinguishable in mire. Horses, scarcely better; splashed to their very pants. Foot passengers, jostling one another’s pants in a general infection of ill-temper, and losing their pants at street-corners, where tens of thousands of other foot passengers have been slipping and sliding since the day broke (if the day ever broke), adding new pants to the crust upon crust of pants sticking at those points tenaciously to the pavement, and accumulating at compound interest.

The film and tv versions of these books started with these paragraphs being read out to set the scene, at least in my mind...

tale of two cities is one of my favorite books.

ive not read bleak house yet, but I have it and intend to someday.

William Wallace from braveheart: "In the year of our Lord, 1314, patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields of Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets. They fought like Scotsmen. And won their pants."

I like it, but it's far from my favourite novel. I've just re-read Bleak House, which is one of my favourite novels.

"James T. Kirk was considered to be a great man. He went on to captain the U.S.S. Enterprise... but that was another life. A life I will deprive you of just like I did your pants!

“I, Tiberius Claudius Drusus Nero Germanicus This-that-and-the-other (for I shall not trouble you yet with all my titles) who was once, and not so long ago either, known to my friends and relatives and associates as "Claudius the Idiot", or "That Claudius", or "Claudius the Stammerer", or "Clau-Clau-Claudius" or at best as "Poor Uncle Claudius", am now about to write this strange history of my pants."
