Hi there.
Would you please tell me how to deconstruct Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken"?
Thnx.
The faint blaze of the candle of my life ,
Slowly dying like a fire in a pouring rain,
No sparks of hope inside
No shooting stars on my sky
On broken wings , no flying high …
define "deconstruct." That can be taken in different ways.
All I want is to be loved for me. If you love me, you will see I am as gentle as a lamb.
Here is an online article mainly about how not to teach poetry in school, but embedded within the essay is a fine
analysis of "The Road Not Taken." Unfortunately, you'll have to read the entire article:

If you happen to have a copy of The Norton Anthology of
Modern Poetry lying around (or you have access to a public library) look up the page that features "The Road Not Taken." You could learn much just by reading the footnotes to the poem in the anthology, as well as its editors' remarks introducing the Frost section.
Good article Aunty
Yes a very readable article.
Really though you only have to mention "poetry" in the classroom and there are cries of pain and anguish, hate and loathing and that's before you've even read any. Try using the word "Shakespeare" and you get exactly the same response - it's a constant battle.
However, this year I'm planning on working wonders.![]()
I think W.D. Snodgrass published 100 famous poems deconstructed. I don't know if that one is in there.
